PDXSharon

They did the surgery by laprascopy.  They only make three small incisions.  I feel a little sore, but no pain. It is definitely surgery; you are under general anesthesia.  But other than the muscle soreness (they expand you stomach with carbon dioxide), I feel very good.  Returning to work on Monday should not be a problem unless pain comes later.  They wrote me a prescription for Vicodan and 600 mg Advil tablets, but have not needed either.  I am also greatly relieved to have it done, and  can stop worrying about "what ifs."

I do not know why the diagnosis to surgery moved so quickly.  I think because one of cysts looked suspicious on film.  The MRI said "cannot exclude malignant carcinoma."  It was large (4.7 cm), and had a nodule, at least on film. A nodule suggests a neoplasm which can be a cancer tumor.

I highly recommend getting a second opinion.  I am very glad I did.

Thanks again for sharing your story and situation with me. It's helped me decide to call the gyno/onc Monday and ask him to schedule me for a laporoscopy as soon as possible. I want him to first try to remove the cyst and the mass (my mass on the left ovary is pendunculated - or as it was explained to me - it comes off the ovary on a stalk and bulbs out.) I want him to at least try to leave one ovary. Unforunately, I have the cyst on one and mass on the other...I'm just hoping neither is too far embedded to be removed. I figure the longer they stay in there the more 'at home' they will become and I certainly don't want that. I just don't want to whittle away time bouncing around from doctor to doctor...and the gyno/onc did tell me he would do whatever I decided, so...he's about to hear :-) Anyway...that's the plan :-) I am so happy to hear your positive outcome!! I will keep you posted.

The physician said I should have been in a lot of pain due to extent of endometriosis, but I never was.  Isn't that strange?

Thank you for all your assistance.  You were a ray of light in this process.  The laproscopy has been completed, and I am fine.  The cysts were just endometrias which have been removed.  Final tests not complete, but pathologist felt confident not cancer. Physician also removed other endomitriomas scattered around the pelvis.
