I'm 42 years old and started having abdominal pain on my lower right side, worse when my bladder or bowel was full, a few days ago. Thinking "appendicitis!" I called my GP and went to an Urgent Care Center, where after bloodwork, urinalysis, a transvaginal ultrasound and a CT scan of the abdomen, I ended up with the news that I have a 6x8cm tumor in my uterus or on my ovary.
My situation is further complicated by some unusual reproductive anatomy -- a septum in my vagina, two cervices and a bifurcated uterus -- which I am told makes the diagnostic tools harder to read.
I saw my GP this a.m. and she referred me to her own Gyn, as I'm not crazy about my own. He took a history, did a pelvic exam (which just about did me in, the pain was so intense when he pressed on my abdomen), and after talking to the Urgent Care Center's radiologist, referred me for an MRI, which I am fortunately having tomorrow a.m.
My GP ordered the CA-125 test done this a.m. (How long will it be before those results come in?)
Of course, I'm scared to death, but anxious for a diagnosis so I can find my path forward.
The symptoms, the size of the tumor and the risk factors seem to make this a very real possibility for me. The Gyn was talking about whether to do a hysterectomy or laparatomy but I guess the MRI might make this decision clearer.
Any advice? Thoughts? I could sure use some words of wisdom, and in the mean time everyone in my life is praying this is just fibroids and that they are IN my uterus.
Many thanks in advance.
