Pain after surgery

I am new at this I hope I am doing this right. I asked a question and got an answer now I have another question.....sorry. I am concerned about pain and complications during surgery. I am having my ovaries out this week and have already had a hysterectomy and had my gallbladder and appendix out. The doc said it may be complicated because of scar tissue may need blood transfusions and he could perferate some organs. Not to mention he tells me if my cyst had gotten smaller it would be benign but it got bigger. Sorry I have so many questions but yes I am scared hate to admit it but I am. I also was told I had a heart problem and had to get a medical clearence they don't tell me much just I'll see you at the hospital. Any info on this complicated issue is needed asap. Thanks.

Right - it will still be there when you are well!  Make sure to tell your drs everything.  Ask for a heart dr to be available also.  It is a good idea to write down the questions so that you don't forget them when you are at the drs. office.  We need to be proactive in our health care.  It is wise that you are asking questions.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

They will have a heart doctor/surgeon available.  Also, and equally important, when they are aware of heart problems before surgery, the anesthesiologist will have prepared special meds with the anesthesia for your heart as well so you are doubly covered, thanks to prescreening.  It is no wonder you are having heart trouble with as much as you have gone through with your family.  We have a lot in common, my father just passed last month.  Its hard to believe I moved into this new house 3 years ago, yet I have not unpacked and my interior painting is not even half done.  I started feeling ill just after I moved in and started all these projects.  My home is in total disarray, but, that's okay, our health comes first.  If you have someone living with you, hand it ALL over to them.  Just take it easy and let it all go for a while.  In time, you will feel better and can catch up then.  What did they tell you was wrong or reason for oopherectomy?

Teresa thanks. Actually I have what the call short PR Intervals. No surgery is needed and I had the tests done in 2003 but this doctor did clear me. I hope my GYN has a heart doc standing by just in case. Sorry to hear you had a hard time it is scary. I have had a really hard year I lost my father in Oct of 2004 then my step dad in June he was my cancer patient and my uncle died that March he also was my cancer patient. I left in Sept because I thought I was having a break down now this. I am trying to deal with all of this because what else can I do. My house is set up enough so we can live and when I can I will go down to the other place and pack up the rest of my stuff. That is that I can't stress any more. I have to be in the right frame of mind to get through this surgery. This is a wonderful site. I just hope this isn't cancer.

I didn't pass the medical clearance screening either.  I had to have some heart care before a total hysterectomy and removal of a tumor growing from my right ovary up to my heart.  It is a good thing they put you through those tests, it makes your odds a lot better at surgery time if they are aware of your heart problems.  It delayed removing the tumor about a month and a half, but it also helped me be able to live through the surgery.  I was in shock at the time they found the tumor and I had to have another surgery, much less that I suddenly had to have heart surgery first.  When I look back, as scary as it was then, I realize, I was very fortunate they found that problem first before jumping into the lap surgery.  I think you are fortunate they found it first as well.  I know you are very scared, but sometimes that makes our hearts skip and jump all over the place, I hope knowing this will help you remember how important it is to stay calm right now.  I'll be thinking of you.  Please keep asking questions and keep us posted.

Ditto.  That's why we sign releases before we go in for the surgery.  As for pain maintenance, the nurses are trained to make sure that you get the meds that you need to make you feel comfortable.  Don't be a stoic and try to rough it without the meds.  It's not worth the effort.  If you have a pump for your meds, you're the one who controls when its given.  It's not hard to use...just don't hesitate to use it.  You can't overmedicate yourself.  It's computerize and knows when you taking your doses...locks itself for a certain amount of time after you take a dose.

Don't hesitate to ask questions.  No such thing as a dumb question.
peace,
Anne

I too was told my surgery would be extremely complicated. Organs could be perferated, I could be catherized the rest of my life, and the list goes on. None of this happened. They have to tell you all the horrible things that could go wrong so you can give informed consent. Knowing what could happen and wont your dr will take all precautions.
