Pain during and after intercourse

I'm 26 years old and I've been having pain during and after intercourse for the past 9 months.  I've been with the same partner for 7yrs.  I finally went to my Ob/Gyn to have it checked out.  She did an interal ultrasound and it showed that I have several cyst on each ovary.  She prescribed me some birthcontrol pills for three months to see if that would make the pain go away.  I went back after the three months for a check up and the pain was still there.  She suggested laproscopy to determine whats causing my pain.

For the past few weeks I've also been having really bad back pain in my lower back.  I read somewhere that that and my other symtoms could be a sign of cancer.  Cancer runs in my family.  Some other symtoms that I have are dizziness, diarreha, irregular bleeding & weight gain.

Thanks for your comments.  I had surgery on 3/15/05 and found out that I have endometriosis and ovarian cyst.  My doctor and I are now in the process of finding a treatment that will work so I don't have to have another surgery. Thanks again.

I should keep a check on things, it could well be a functional ovarian cyst, which they hope will go away on their own.  If not they would need to perform surgery.  These cysts are not cancerous, but if they are continuing to grow they would cause pain and you to put on weight.  I wouldnt get too worried yet, but go to your doctors and make sure they answer your fears and follow up medical procedures.  I have recently had an oophectomy by laproscopic surgery and have made an excellent recovery.  Mine was done as a precautionary measure as I had a normal functional cyst on one of my ovaries and there is a bad family history of ovarian cancer.  I am 49 and am fine.  I am sure you will be, but do discuss all your concerns and if necessary if the worry is great to you, maybe suggest removal of your ovaries.  If however you are still planning on having children and you are young I would maybe consider delaying ovary removal.  Functional cysts seem to be quite common these days.  Let us know how you get on.
