I received the results of my pelvic ultrasound, and more confused than anything. I've been having extra periods (with heavy cramping & clotting) and often spot (brownish discharge) between periods. I also have some bowel & bladder "issues", as well as extreme fatigue (although my hemoglobin is fine), and difficulty losing weight. I thought my thyroid was shot, but those values looked great. This is what my US report says:
-The uterus is anteverted. It measures 9.4 cm. x 5.9 cm. x 7.0 cm. The endometrial stripe is thickened, measuring 14 mm thick, findings may be associated with endometrial hyperplasia. Carcinoma cannot be ruled out. Follow up US recommended (6-8 weeks) to further evaluate this. There is a hypoechoic structure measuring 2.0 cm. x 1.4 cm. x .9 cm. in the posterior proximal uterus. Multiple nabothian cysts are present in the cervix, unremarkable.
The right ovary measures 3.0 cm x 2.5 cm x 2.7 cm. The left ovary measures 2.9 cm x 1.6 cm x 2.4 cm. Multiple follicles are seen within each ovary. There is no adnexal mass/free fluid in cul-de-sac.
IMPRESSION: 1. Thickened abnormal endometrial stripe, worrisome for endometrial hyperplasia/carcinoma and a followup pelvic ultrasound is recommended. 2. A 2 cm. hypoechoic structure in the posterior roximal uterus likely represents fibroid. 3. No adnexal mass/free fluid identified in pelvis.
I thought I was being checked for polycystic ovaries (both sisters have them). What does "thickened, abnormal endometrial stripe mean? I thought 14 mm was fairly normal depending on the time of month -- should I read something into the phrase "thickened, ABNORMAL stripe"?...
