Perplexed Ovarian Cysts!!!!This is new to me.

Hi there, I am a very worried 31 year old women with 3 children and starting in Febuary of 06 I had 2 periods very heavy with alot of pain mainly on my right radiating through to my back and butt down my legs and calfs. In March eagerly awaiting my next period it came just 18 days since my last one and was very heavy once again with the same pain and sickness that comes with pregnancy! So I put in a call to my OB, she was busy so I saw an another OB, she found a 5-6 cm cyst on my left ovary, but in this whole time I have never felt pain on my left always on my right. So then I was quickly put in touch with the ultrasound department for a formal ultrasound on those big machines. At the end of March I got one done and they confirmed the cyst was the size of a grapefruit with a strange matter inside of it? My OB still has know idea what it was! I was scheduled for surgery April 6th, the day before I called my OB and asked for 1 last ultrasound because I have been pain free for 3-4 days now. So low and behold the grapefruit had disappeared. My cyst had collapsed. So we cancelled surgery, and left it with see you in a few months. I have a another cyst on my right ovary approx 1.7cm, she called that completley functional. I have had 4 episodes of completley mind blowing pain at the time of ovulation and around when my period starts. I have night sweats, feel sick, boobs are tender sometimes, bloated. This is all very strange to me I eat but feel full shortly after a few bites. All my tests are in the normal range, but I feel extremly NOT normal. One day I fine the next I'n not.

Yes, Katie, that was going to be my next suggestion -  endocrine disorder, especially thyroid.  Something is causing perimenopausal symptoms, and thyroid disfuction can certainly do that to a woman.

Oh, sorry I missed that, there was a lot to read here, so you mean your hormone levels checked out as normal but the symptoms you are having make you feel like they are not normal?  OK I understand that.  Have you had a complete physical?  There must be so many things that can make one feel like you do.  Thyroid, endo, adrenals, diabetes, gosh you need to get this figured out eh.

Hi there MickeyVicky yes my hormone levels have been checked via blood tests. Is there some reason yours was done by a swab in your mouth and not by blood work? Is  it diffrent? My hormone problems I have had for years................ I had them long before I had any cysts. I unfortunatley cannot take the pill even the lowest one, I become very sick. I have to keep things as Natural as possible for my body, my stomach is very sensitive. My ob-gyn told me my hormone levels were fine, I thought well they can't be that fine if I wake up drenched in sweat all along my hair line and down my breasts. Men don't read this right they might like that specific comment? LOL....No but anyhoot I'm tired of feeling like I'm crazy and that my hormones are normal for me, they might be in the normal range for someone my age and weight and whatever else they go of off, but they make me feel anything but normal, especially since I am only 31. I have stuggled with hhormone problems since I was a teen only for them to become worse after I had my children. Sorry to ramble on, but I'm sooooooo frustrated!!!!!!!!!

sounds like peri-mopause....mary-53 needs to offer her wisdom and she needs to get here asap....there are hormones that are not synthetic that can help you through what you are experiencing right now...she has helped me and many others here...there are bioidentical hormones that would probably be the solution to your problems....MARY 53 where are you....
be patient...she will arrive soon...I hope....
come back if she doesn't show up.....
Peace.

Mary is away for the weekend....don't panic, we will send her in here as soon as we can....you are pretty young for all this hormone stuff though, and, they checked out OK so....
I would be tempted to try another birth control pill, how long ago was that, that you took the lowest one?  They are always coming up with new ones.  You might need to try again.  Sounds like your poor system needs a bit of a break from the ovulation.  I would suggest staying away from all dairy products (because of the hormones in them).  You did say you like to go all natural so maybe you already have cut out stuff like that.  Perimenopause or even menopause is possible even at your young age, but your hormone levels checked out OK.  (Having your levels tested with blood is fine, don't worry about that.)  Make sure you keep your bowels healthy with lots of water, fluids and fiber.  Maybe ask for the hemocult test to check for blood in your stool.  Try to cut out gassy foods and see if that helps.  I had more problems with gas when I had cysts.  Try to get some exercise, reduce your stress (good luck on that, with 3 kids!) and get your system calmed down....
Take care.

I'm feeling some solace that someone besides me has all the pregnancy symptoms.  I'm not diagnosed, and hopefully will have surgery soon.  I just can relate to feeling awful, I feel like I am pregnant but am not, and this "morning sickness" and breast tenderness is awful.  At least when I suffered before it was for an exciting reason, a baby.
So, I just want you to know I am suffering with you.  God Bless all of us here!

pursue a second opinion in the terms of what? Another ob-gyn or do you at some point start to deal with your normal medical physcian as well? You know maybe I should look into seeing am hormonal doctor, you know an endocrinologist, they might beable to dig a little bit into ones hormones!!!!!!!!

Your doctor can test levels such as FSH.  There are tests on the market that one can even use at home. Google "testing for menopause"...

It could defintely be periomeonpause as this starts years before and I have a good friend who went thru menopause at 38.

BUT...that being said, I agree with everyone else that you shouldn't just assume it is--or sit back and wait.  I would definitely pursue having this checked out to be on the safe side.  And I ALWAYS recommend a second opinion!

God Bless!

What does it go off of? Mother and grandmaother's menopause they say they can get a good gage from that. Well my mom and grandma were both in there late 40's....... so that about nicks that out. You know I just love the hormonal tests they give and the range of normalality is quite amuzing. I know damn well my hormones are not functioning normaly, please don't tell me you take some blood and call me in a few days IF there out of the NORMAL range!!!!!!! Frustrating.

I thought that there was no definitive test for menopause. Am I wrong?

Has your doctor checked your hormone levels?  Many, if not all, of the symptoms you describe are those of perimenopause.  Of course, like the "chicken or the egg" question, it is difficult to know which came first - a cyst which disrupted your hormones, or a hormonal disruption that is contributing to cyst formation.  Anyway,  a doctor can check easily your hormone levels.   My check was done with a cheek swab test kit similar to the DNA test kits.  Another member of my family had periodic blood work, but she and her husband were actively trying for a child. And if you are trying for another child, a specialist in fertility might be a good consultation with the other things you have going on 'down there.'   The fertility specialists are quite good on the hormonal issues.

And your case is not as odd as you think.  Xrayu2 had multiple complex/solid ovarian masses of undetermined type which resolved on their own as well, and at least one other person has posted on this same dilemna too.

Hi thank you for responding, yes my Ob is and Ob-GYN, and she did refer me to an gyn-oncolgist that is who was going to do the surgery because the inside of the cyst looked strange my normal ob did'nt feel comfortable doing it so she gave me to her. After the formal ultrasound was done and she still din'nt know what it was on the inside as well we just chalked it up to it probaley being a benign cyst of some sort with a 1-2% chance that it was something else. But after that went away on it's own she was perplexed as well as to where it went without any pain, and little to my knowledge. They come up so painfully stay around for a few days make me feel sooooooooo unwell and then disappear. I also have so much gas and lots of stomach problems. the gas is so painful, I live on Beano and Gas-X. I know I have cyst's there what do you think I should do about them? Investigate further or just let them come up and go down when they want to? Should I ask for other blood tests I read about the germ Cell pregnancy hormone one, should I get that. and do these go away with pregnancy? Can you even get pregnant when you suffer from these. I feel like I would one more child before something reeeeeeally bad happens to my womenly parts.

Hey there Becki...so you are seeing an ob not a gyn?  I would suggest you go to a gyn and if your difficulties with cysts continue you go get a 2nd opinion from a gyn/oncologist as female reproductive problems are right up his alley! If you have been in pain this long it is time to get some answers....and if you are going to have surgery to remove a cyst ....YOU HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE TO GET IT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME... have a gyn/oncologist do the surgery....he/she will be your best bet as this is their arena of expertise.  If I were you I wouldn't wait any longer to get to the bottom of this...pain is no fun...it ruins everything and makes those around us hurt as well. Get yourself a good gyn who works with a good gyn/oncologist....don't suffer any longer.  Stay in touch and return with any questions.....somebody here might have an answer for you....we all do really care and want to help.  I look forward to hearing from  you again soon.
Peace.
