I will have the laparoscopy surgery tomorrow at 2:00pm. It is my understanding that I can eat a liquid diet the day before the surgery. Does anyone know if this diet include chicken broth?
what if I have a bladder infection before I go in?
Good luck and God bless. Will keep you in my prayers.
I am a nurse and have been a patient in your very position. I do believe you.
The pre-op questions are important. You have a right to informed consent. You also have the right to refuse the recommended treatment. What kind of surgery are you having? If it is to be via laporoscopy your recovery should be simple, depending on you overall health. Also, the scars will be minimal. You'll probably feel pretty good in about a week.
My ovarian cyst was too large (about the size of a large grapefruit) to removed by laporascope. I had a vertical abdominal incision from navel to pubic bone which required hundreds of internal dissolvable sutures and 22 staples on the outside which were removed a week later. My post-op hospital stay was 2 days and took 3 weeks off work, although the surgeon recommended 6 weeks - could not afford it. The pain was tolerable with narcotics and after 5 days I was just taking ibuprofen with adequate relief. I had no complications or infections and got to keep both ovaries. They originally thought they would take the affected one.
My surgery was 5 months ago and my abs are still very weak. I'm working on it. The scar is not pretty, purple and feels ropy beneath the surface still. I am blessed to have a husband who completely overlooks it and thinks if anything, it gives my body character. :)
If you are the kind of person who needs all the scoop to feel more comfortable you should seek it out to your satisfaction. Some people would rather not know much about it. That is up to you.
I will pray for you.
I did not forget to ask anything. By the time that I had read the posts on this forum, I knew so much about what would happen and what to expect that the nurses were asking me where I learned all of this information! When I told them it was a patient-to-patient forum, I don't think they believed me.
