Question Re: Chemo and Affect on CA125

Hello,

This is all so new to me as I have newly been diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer.  My tenative plan is to have 2 rounds of IV chemo (taxol/carbo), then TAH, followed by 6 cycles of IP chemo. I had my first round just about 3 weeks ago and got back my lab results today (next round is 2/5).  Prior to chemo, my ca125 was 165 and today it's 100.  I know it's still high....but I'm feeling really hopeful that it's working already and just hoping for some additional encouragement from those with a little more experience.

Thanks.

My mom is taking chemo for the third time in 6 years. She just had the third dose last week, her CA 125 raised from 33 to 162. Is this worrying, knowing that she has pelvic cyst that is increasing in size as well.

Please share with us any experiences

Thank you all for your replies........yes a gyn/onc is doing the TAH.  I will keep you posted...as I think this forum is such a great support system.  I wish you and your families all the best of luck as well.

msjazz - how did you do with the ip chemo?  i have been told that it is typically less tolerable than iv in terms of adverse effects.  is this what you found?

thanks.

From reading your post I am guessing you had  a scope done for the stageing?  The plan they have laid out for you sounds good.  I do hope that an Onocologist is doing the TAH, keep us posted and Godd Luck.  Marty

My mum is currently having carbo and taxol for a stage 3 reoccurence. Her CA125 was 60 and after 2 sessions was down to 16. Dr said its a good sign.

That sounds like a good response. I have read that if ca125 drops to half after 2 rounds, and you should with that good report , that it is a good sign. I did ip chemo first, then carbo /taxol iv last. The ip was cisplatin , and it was little stronger than the carbo. It took me two rounds to drop ca125 to half with it.  best wishes   donna
