Question regarding post laparatomy condition

Four days ago I had a laparatomy to remove a benign ovarian dermoid. I am feeling heavily bloated and have not had a BM since the surgery. Any suggestions on what to do or how long this will last? Also, was I kidding myself planning for only one week of recovery?

Did they give you Miralax? My doc had me on it in the hospital. That and Reglan. It took me 5 or 6 days to begin to function in that department. Walk as much as you can. I feel for ya!  I hope you are feeling better soon. Take it easy, Marie

You should let your doctor know you have not had a BM. Are you on stool softeners? The bloated feeling is from gas, and the more you move around, the quicker it will disapate.

Yes, you were probably being overly optimistic about a one week recovery. What did your doctor tell you? Usually, it is at least a month. I'm sure it depends on your job and the responsibilities it entails.

Good luck!!!!

Gentle Hugs,
Shari
