laproscopic ovary removal questions....

Hi everyone, I have several questions, not sure if I am even in the right category...basic info:
42 yrs old, had partial hysterctomy 7 years ago. Now I am going to have at least one ovary removed due to large liquid cysts and one solid. Had c125 test, came back normal. It's my decision to leave or take the remaining ovary, which has one small cyst. My doctor says one ovary will compensate for the other eventually, but wants to take both to avoid future problems.
My questions: should I do both ovaries? Is a "normal" C125 test accurate, even if a solid mass was also discovered? How long is recovery time? Anyone doing ERT? Side effects? Libido problems? soooooo many questions, I would appreciate hearing about anyone's experience, and promise to post how things go and what decisions I made.

Thanks so much!!

Thanks for the comments and info. Marty, after reading your relpy, I did some reading and learned that the CA-125 is only 50% accurate in premenopausal women, which is me...at least for 2 more weeks anyway... :(   So now I am trying not to stress about the "mystery mass", before I wasn't worried based on the test results. But better to be worried and informed than clueless, right?  I guess I will just have to wait until the surgery to be sure.

Morrowville, glad to hear things are going well after the big H...I did that a few years ago. Yes, you should have no probs with a desk job by then, I managed to chase a toddler and get back to normal around then if I recall. Good luck, I hope you continue to heal and get stronger, but don't do too much too soon just because you start to feel good....

I had a complete hyst 04/08.  I am feeling stronger every day, and believe after 4 weeks, I will be able to return to work (desk job).  Whatever you and your doctor choose to do to handle your particular situation, I wish you speedy recovery and no reoccurance of problems!

Please keep us posted!

the main concern for you, should be , are all the cysts benign? During surgery  an immediate path report can be done via frozen section of tissue removed.  If all is benign which probably will be, then to leave the ovary will help you through menopause.  If not benign then a complete debulking can occur and  one surgery will be done then. I would firmly suggest that you have your surgery done by an onocologist and if not at least have one available.  The CA125 test is not that accurate,  to base a dx of OVCA on just it is not practible. Recovery time for a scope is somewhere inbetween 2 to 6 weeks, depends on just what internal organs are removed.  As far as HRT goes, wait on  that untill you face the problem, some take them  some don't.  Good Luck  Marty.
