Severe chest pain/lymph node pain upon eating

Hi, Has anyone here with ovarian cancer had a situation where you get intense pain in the center of your chest that shoots up into the lymph nodes in your neck making them explode with pain upon eating certain foods, such as those high in carbs like pasta? I have experienced this several times and it's agonizing. I also have been having a feeling of pressure in my lower abdomen and this month's cycle never arrived. No, I am not pregnant, that is not even possible.

The waiting game is scary. It took six years to be diagnosed with Ovarian cancer even though I had so many relatives with reproductive cancer. It took 46 years to be diagnosed with MS. I was labeled a hypochondriac. Now drs know I am stoic. They see me immediately. It is sad it took so much.

Having Ovarian cancer is surreal. I am on my sixth different kind of chemo. I have a port in my chest so they do not do IVs. They just plug into my port. I do not think about the side effects until they come. You just get through them. It is always the lesser of evils. Luckily I have great pain medications. That is the most important thing to have good pain medications.

Oh Jeez, not sure why that turned out as characters but I didn't say anything bad. There's some kind of bug in the code.

I had two years straight of periods. Waiting is the hardest part. The not knowing is hard.

I went from regular as clock work. I had periods non stop for two years then they just stopped. I even had an ablation to stop the periods but bled for another six months. I know you are worried. Keep me posted even if it is just to talk about anxiety from waiting. It is so hard not knowing. This week they thought I had a blood clot in my lung which can be fatal. Just the hour I waited for the test made me a nervous wreck. I had a friend who is a doctor with me and he was nervous too. It turned out okay. The week before I had a twisted bowel. They were deciding whether to pump my stomach. I hate the idea of the tube through the nose to the stomach. The bowel untwisted on its own and I did not have to go through that or surgery.
There are lots of things to worry about medically that turn out not to be as bad.

Hi Alex,

Just wanted to update you. I am seeing the doctor this week. It's for a check up so he will probably order test and I guess it will be a few weeks before I know anything so I will keep you posted. My periods have gotten weird, the last one was late by almost two months and now I am spotting just 2 weeks after it ended. It's got me a bit worried. Are irregular periods common with Ovarian cancer? Hope all is well with you.

I am sorry I do not know how the thyroid and ovaries interact. I think the ovaries signal the thyroid which is in your neck. I have no idea what is going on with you.

Do you know of any connection between the Thyroid and the ovaries? I do have my gallbladder. Where is that located? On the left or right? I have discomfort on both sides.

I totally relate to your no insurance paranoia. When I had insurance I would dismiss everything and not go to the doctor and now that I don't have it I'm convinced I'm dying. I think everything is the worst now because I can't run out and get tests. I will probably have to wait until after the holidays to straighten things out so the next month or so will be hard but I will update you to let you know what I find out. *fingers crossed*

I'm also praying for you. I believe they will find a cure. They have the human genome, how long can it take?

You could very well have several things going on. You could have Poly cystic ovary syndrome, some indigestive thing like esophegus, or hiatal hernia , and or thyroid.  Do you still have your gall bladder? Before I got cancer I used to tell doctors that I had a number of things that combined made me feel crummy but would not kill me.

The human body is complex. Another problem with our medical system is doctors no longer look at the whole human being but at parts. You have to have the right specialist see the right thing for a diagnosis. I used to work as a veterinary assistant and saw how the vets looked at the whole dog. A human doctor specializes and that is what they see. Luckily I have a good general doctor who looks at the whole human. Unfortunately she did miss my cancer. I had tumors on both ovaries which is rare for cancer so she assumed it wasn't. She did not tell me about the tumors and stopped doing ultrasound. Part of it was she was having a baby and not concentrating.I had a CT scan that showed nothing. The ultra sound was the key.

I hope you get an answer. Being in limbo is hard. When they first found the MS it took another two years of tests before they would officially diagnose it. The cancer was over 4 years. Not knowing is hard. When I had no insurance for two years I convinced myself I had breast cancer. I did not have it but I was sure of it. I had a new lump. It was so scary for me. I told no one. My doctor thought I was a hypochondriac. Now she knows I am the opposite I only go to the doctor if I can't fix it myself.

I wish things were easier for you. My health care is easier because I do not have many choices. They tell me what chemo to do next. My first one was bad I lost my hair and almost died. The rest have been okay, no hair loss until January then I go on the big guns.

I care and I am sorry you have to deal with this.

Oh dear, insurance is a disaster in this country. If you have it they weigh you down with huge copays and if you don't you get crazy bills for the simplest things. One trip to the emergency room, no tests of anything, and the bill was close to $2k. I don't understand why it costs so much for nothing.

I'm not sure what's going on. I can tell you that I am gaining weight, feel heavy in my lower abdomen, like I swallowed a bowling ball, my periods have stopped and I keep having this severe indigestion thing where pain goes from my chest into my neck and throat and up to the roof of my mouth. I also feel extremely tired and short of breath when I walk up stairs or lie down. My appetite hasn't really been affected and no bowel issues or vomiting. Could it just be endometriosis causing all this? I forgot to mention that apprx. 2 years ago my thyroid was tested and it said my TSH was high. I didn't follow up because I lost my insurance. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Thanks Again Alex. Your support is much appreciated.

I hope you do not have ovarian cancer. Usually you lose weight. Anorexia is one of the main symptoms. I looked pregnant but I was under weight. I got so under weight I was failure to thrive. I could not stop bleeding all the time even after an ablation. I may be had two days off a month. All I could eat was avocado because it could get through the blockage. Everything else I ate made me barf.

Our country is a mess with insurance. I was just in Hungary and fell and broke my nose. We had to pay cash. I went to one hospital for a digital xray and then to a specialist at another hospital. The total bill was $60 dollars. The xray was $12. Everywhere we went in Europe had socialized medicine. Germany is ahead of us on cancer. Our biggest insurer is BCBSNC a not for profit. The top dozen executives make over a million dollars a year. They give every state legislator money to run for office which they take from State Employees charged to their health plan premiums.

I wish you had insurance I have been with out it. Nothing is harder.

Thanks so much for that information Alex, it is helpful. The reason I thought Ovarian cancer is that I have had endometriosis for decades and they say that raises the risk. I also have had ovarian cysts before, the first one when I was still a teen. Also, my periods have stopped even though I have not experienced menopause as I am in my 40's and have had no signs of that. I haven't had any vomiting or bowel issues, just a feeling of heaviness in my gut and I can't seem to lose weight no matter what I do. I'm not obese but I have gained about 30lbs since last year and they say ovarian cancer does that. The other issues I am having is a constant feeling of exhaustion and shortness of breathe when I lie down. I sometimes feel this sort of spasm where I suddenly have to gasp for air. I'm trying to get my insurance back but in the meantime I have to play the waiting game so I'm just trying to get as much information as I can. Thanks again.

A hiatal hernia would be a separate issue. I believe the esphogus breaks through the diaphragm. You can look it up. My mother had it.

Most ovarian cancer has no pain. I threw up for two years due to bowel blockage but by the time they found my cancer it had been 4 years at the least. Most pain is caused by bowel blockage. You throw up because the food can't go through your system so it comes back up. The only way to find ovarian cancer is an ultrasound.

You have such a low percentage of getting ovarian cancer. I have the BRCA mutation. My grand mother and aunt died of ovarian in there 50's. If you are younger than 50 your chances are less. Angelina Joulie's Dr. said a normal woman has a 1.4% over ever getting ovarian cancer.

You could have many conditions which cause ovarian cysts. You can have pain or disrupted periods. I bled for two years straight with my cancer, instead of stopping it.

I would not be certain it is ovarian cancer when it is so rare.

The treatment for ovarian cancer is first surgery. They take the uterus, ovaries, tubes, the linings of all your organs(liver and such), and sometimes part of the bowel. They look at other organs to see if it has spread. Then it is six rounds of chemo. Then they do a CT scan. If there is no sign of cancer you just watch and see. If you are like me it is different chemos for the rest of your life. Most of the time the cancer comes back. I now have it in the spleen, bowel, and whole lymph system. My lymph nodes do not hurt at all. All in all it is a pretty painless cancer.

A woman get get very large cysts which cause pain but are benign.

I also have Multiple Sclerosis and know google is a double edged sword. We have people everyday put in symptoms and come up with MS when in the end they do not have it.

You are in a bad position and I hate to see you worry. When we had no insurance I thought I had breast cancer. I had a lump. When we go insurance years later I did not have breast cancer.

Now because of the BRCA I know I have a 98% of breast cancer and an untreatable one. I no longer get my breasts checked because there is not much I can do about it at this point with ovarian cancer. I just could not live waiting for the other shoe to fall.

Yes I think an ultra sound is the best move but if that is impossible do not assume the worst it will make you crazy.

I really do care.

Have you had an ultrasound yet. If you are still having cycles I am assuming you have not been diagnosed? Keep in mind a woman has a 1.4% of ovarian cancer in a lifetime.
What you describe kinda sounds like a hiatal hernia which is incredibly painful and serious. I would go to a doctor for sure. If you are worried about ovarian cancer and ultrasound is the conclusive test. If it shows that you have a cyst do not panic most cysts 98% -99% are benign.

I am not receiving any medical care, I am not able to afford it. I'm diagnosing myself though Google and other search engines. What causes a hernia? Would that cause periods to stop and pain in ovaries?
