Hi April,
When was your last pap smear? Have you ever had an abnormal pap smear?
When I think of bumps on the cervix, there are a few things that come to mind:
-a nabothian cyst is a benign cyst of the cervix. It occurs when the normal skin of the cervix grows over a normal cervical gland. The purpose of cervical glands is to make mucous. So when the gland gets blocked off, a small cyst of mucous forms. This is completely benign. It is easy to diagnose just by looking at the cervix. One does not do anything about them.
-an irritation from trauma. This could be the trauma of vaginal delivery, or a tampon.
-endometriosis can show up on the cervix. This can also cause bleeding.
-a polyp from the upper cervical canal or the lining of the uterine cavity (endometrium). This can also cause bleeding.
-a wart
-a cervical cancer which is causing a mass.
So you need to see your doctor who will do a pelvic exam. You need a pap smear if you have not had one recently. If anything is seen, it can be biopsied. While yo are a little young for this, your doctor should think about whether you should have a biopsy of the lining of your uterus. This should be considered because of the abnormal bleeding.
An ultrasound can be helpful to evaluate the lining of the uterus.
best wishes to you. Let us know what happens.
I was having trouble finding an area to post this but it's a similar situation. I am just curious on how to tell if a little lump anywhere is cancerous or just like a gland or something. For instance if I move my skin around on the top of my vagina (on the front of the bone) i can feel some lumps. I can't feel them unless i rub back and forth and i can feel them moving. They feel like about the size of a dime. They don't hurt and are squishy. I have no history of cancer in my family at all, but I still get scared of it. I am just a worry wart, but want to make sure. I'm only 19 so I really don't know what to expect. If anyone can help and give me some tips, that'd be great. :)
Thanks.
Michelle

I noticed two hard bumps on the outside of my cervix just yesterday. After about the 3rd time I felt them I noticed one was a bit smaller than it had been and when I withdrew my finger there was blood on it. It was like I had popped a blood blister. I called my insurance nurse on call who advised to call my OB gyn and talk to the on call dr. I did and I spoke wiht my DR. who advised me to go to the ER. The ER Dr. only did a visual exam and stated my cervix looked normal except for some irritation. These bumps were on the back side so a visual would not detect them. He advised they do not do internal exams as they are no OB gyns and advised me to follow up with my Dr. I plan on calling first thing Monday since I am pretty concerned. I am 45 and have never had an abnormal Pap and have never felt anything like this before.
Comments would greatly be appreciated.
Hi There, the best thing to do is to see a doctor or nurse practitioner for an examination. That person can evaluate the are that you have a concern about.
take care
I had my last pap 14 mos ago. I know I am due again and will make an appointment next week. I have never had an abnormal pap either.
Thank you for your feedback.
