Solid mass on right ovary

I went to the ER because I was in a lot of pain that put me into tears. They told me I had a Kidney infection and then told me to go to my regular doctor if i still had more pain. I of course go to the health department because I don't have insurance. I was telling her about my pain and that i had been bleeding for about 12 days heavily. Then she looked at my chart and noticed that 8 months ago i had an abnormal pap smear. I was not contacted because I had changed my phone number and wasn't aware i didn't update it with them. So they ask me a bunch of questions and then schedule me for a colpscopy(sp?) and a pelvic ultrasound. I go get the pelvic ultrasound and during the exam the lady tells me they usually do a transvaginal ultrasound too. I was confused because im of course i'm on a self pay and i had to pay for half of the pelvic ultrasound up front why wouldn't they tell me i was getting that too when my doctor didn't even schedule me for one. So they really scared me. Then i go to the doctor for my colpscopy and he has my ultrasound results and they came back abnormal I have a solid mass on my right ovary. The health department told me that i have to go see a gyno and that it needs further testing. They don't do that there. They told me they are not saying its cancer and that they are not saying that its not cancer and they said it could just burst they are not for sure. Im really confused and scared i just dont know what to do. All of this is coming out of my own pocket because i have no insurance and i am a single mother. Im always in pain. I just would like more information but they just seem to not even want to give me more information. I am scared that i am dying and everything feels like its takin forever. What are my chances? No one has had ovarian caner in my family that i am aware of but my mother has had endometriosis. thank you any advise or help would be great thanks

I got my results.
My pap smear back in 03/19/07
Specimen adequacy: Specimen satisfactory for evaluation: Endocervical/ transformation zone component present
Category: *********Epithelial cell abnormality********
Diagnosis: Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)

PAP Smear results 11/19/07 (same day as coloscopy and biopsy)

Specimen adequacy: Specimen satisfactory for evaluation: Endocervical/ transformation zone component present
Category: *********Epithelial cell abnormality********
Diagnosis: Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)
Comments: Accompanying Tissue (Op07-16369)

Ultra sound results as follows:

TJL/26630
Pelvic Ultrasound
Clinical information: pelvic pain
Comparison: none
Findings: The uterus measures 7.7 x 3.6 x 4.5 cm in dimension. The endometrial stripe measure 1.1 cm in thickness, which is at the upper limits of normal.
The right ovary measure 3.4 x 1.5 x 2.8 cm in dimension. An schogenic mass is seen in the right ovary. This mass is hyperemic and is of increased echogenicity. The mass measure 1.7x 1.5 cm in dimension.
The left ovary measures 2.9 x1.7 x2.3 cm in dimension. Small follicular cysts are seen in the left ovary.
No abnormal mass of fluid collection is seen in the pelvis.
IMPRESSION:
1. Hyperemic right ovarian mass. Follow up is recommended.
2. Left ovarian cysts.

The Coloscopy and Biopsy came back as follows.

"A" 11:00, Biopsy:
Begin squamous epithelium not diagnostic for intraepithelial lesion.
"B"  Endocervical curettings:
Insufficient tissue for diagnosis
comment
Multiple levels are examined
Correlation
LISIL, as reported on the previous pap smear #7115455 and the accompanying pap smear #7156147 is not diagnostically demonstrated within the present tissue specimen

When i went to the doctor and they explained the biopsy and coloscopy to me they told me that there are no precancerous or cancerous cells. That they didn't have enough tissue to diagnose the abnormal cells they collected (retaining to my pap smear)
They also told me that I have not been tested for HPV but they are 99.9% sure that is why my pap smear came back abnormal. Could it be something different could it be endometriosis cells that runs in my family? Also about the ultrasounds they told me about the mass on my right ovary that it maybe cancerous and it may not be cancerous. I feel like i am just be dragged around and i feel like i can't get any answers I am just worried is it really possible high chances that its cancer? Please help me in any way you can thank you sorry its so long.

Hi there
OK, you need to get the actual reports of your pap smear and your ultrasound. You may need to physically go to the locations where those reports are kept such as the clinic or hospital.
That is very important. Once you do that, write out the actual words on that report into this forum.
I look forward to hearing from you
best wishes

I am 23 years old. My history of surgery is really only a c-section in feb 2004. I have had PID before probably 2 years ago. All they told me was i had abnormal cells that showed up in my pap smear back in march 2007 and my ultrasound was abnormal showing mulitple cysts on my left ovary and a solid mass on my right ovary. Thats all they told me. I hope this helps some. Thanks you for your time.

Hi There,

Wow, it is so hard when you do not have a regular doctor or nurse practitioner to guide you through the system.  It is hard to comment on what is going on without more information. It would be helpful to know the following:
-your age
-history of surgery
-history of pelvic infections
-what exactly was the reading on your pap smear
-what exactly was the reading on the ultrasound.

if you can find out this information , it will be easier to give you an opinion
best wishes
