Surgery Wednesday

After my visit to the gyn-onc I felt a little more relieved that I may not have OVCA - some peace of mind the last few days although it's still very possible and I won't know until afte surgery on Wednesday.  The dr had said I would have the end of Sept but then when they called to scheudle me today they said either Oct 21st or next week.;  I opted for next week because don;t like the uncertainty of waiting til October - also the dr said the cysts will contiue to grow quickly - he seemed to think they were endometriosis related and that elevated CA 125 is because of this although he did say could be OVCA.

I am very scared for the actual surgery and finding out when I wake up.  and I am worried about how much pain I will have and about having surgical menopause and about what I'll do if it is cancer.  I've been crying all day since I found out about date for surgery - it makes this all too real.  Please pray for me.  I will post back later next week to let you know how everything turned out.  I read a lot of posts on here about people but then you never know what their diagnosis turned out to be.

You'll do fine.  Arrange for help the first few weeks.  (For example, driving you to the store -- you'll be encouraged to walk a lot but not to do any driving or heavy lifting.)

I learned the trick to getting out of chairs is to sit in higher chairs, not that low sofa at first.  We did rig the sofa by piling more than one of the seat cushions on the side I wanted to sit on.  I also spent a lot of time on my computer at my desk -- or at the kitchen table reading the paper.  You'll figure that stuff out.

I read a novel in the hospital, so I guess I handled the pain okay.  Also did a lot of walking at the hospital and at home.  My biggest problem was that they loaded me with salt (they start with IV, then liquid diet, then soft food) and when I got home my legs looked like old, hard tree stumps.  The doctor said I could use a diuretic and that helped a lot.  The discomfort didn't last too long.

Again, you'll do fine.  Come back here to vent if needed.  Good luck and God bless ...

HUGS!!!!

Of course you are scared. I can tell you from my experience, the surgery was very doable (I went through it twice).  They inserted a morphine pump, and encouraged me to use it....the pain can be controlled.  I was in the hospital 4 days....after each surgery and by the time I left I opted out of even taking a script for pain killers...I hate the way they make you feel, foggy and cloudy.   I took advil as needed....everyone is different...they will give  you what you need to be comfortable and as pain free as possible.  The healing process is slow and you can't over due cause you feel it....but, after a couple of weeks you will start to feel better.

Surgical menopause for me was and still is horrible....BUT....everyone is different.

Try to hang in there.

Best of luck!!!
