Just want to wish you luck for your procedure tomorrow. Hope all goes well for you.
Hey there, I will be doing a bowel prep on Thursday evening at 5pm, the night before my surgery....I'm drinking 1 1/2oz. of Fleet Phospho Soda and then chasing it with 1 litre of Gatorade....You can eat PRIOR to the cleanse, but not after....Just remember to make smart choices of what you eat earlier that day (what goes in, must come out...heehee)...Nothing to drink after midnight. That's what they told me. I'm getting a lap, but I have to do all the "just in case" stuff, because it's diagnostic/exploratory...and chance of ending in an open surgery.
Good luck,
(((Raynbow
When I had to get ready for my partial colectomy, the process ran over a couple of days, starting with switching to a soft low residue diet and then clear liquid diet. Then the prep, which I actually did the morning of my surgery. I was drinking GoLytely, from a gallon jug, 8 oz every ten minutes or so until it was gone - I literally had to stay on the potty once it got working. You get extremely cold drinking that much fluid, and from losing alot of fluids and electroytes from the cleansing. Once it's done, nothing but a clear kind of yellow tinged fluid comes out. . . I found it helpful to keep wrapped up in blankies and I added lemon flavored Crystal Light to the GoLytely and that made it easier to swallow. I don't envy you. It's a yucky thing to go through. Good luck, love, hugs and God bless, Barb
They like you to be without food at least 12 hours before surgery so that you do not "throw up" anything solid or milky. Those things paly havoc on your bronchials if you should aspirate them back into your lungs. I don't know if I could ever have enough chocolate and I love good cheeses. Good luck with everything and I will be waiting on your post on the RS.
Just a few questions Re: colon prep. Are you having the day surgery with the tiny wholes? Is so they may not need the prep to be as extensive as the one for the colonoscopy. For that one they don't want anything in the bowel in case it hides a polyp or somethint. Best bet is to call Dr.s office or hospital and ask. You don't want to show up and be cancelled because you are not prepared.
I am having the open up abdomen surgery and I have to start my prep 2 days before surgery. Bottle of stuff both days and clear fluids for the rest of the time, then nothing to eat or drink after midnite. Good luck. Hope everything goes ok.
