Surgery

I so appreciate knowing that there is a support team here. I did have my consult today and after the gyn/onocol had reviewed my ultra sounds, CT, & CA125 from the tests my regular GYN she has recommended that I undergo an exploratory laportomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, modified radical hysterectomy or supracervival, omentectomy, peritoneal biopsies and washings, para-aortic and selective pelvic lymphadencetomy, appendectomy, tumor debulking or bowel surgery. AND then she explained all the things that could happen while under going the surgery. My husband and daughter went with me. We also have 3 sons.

I am somewhat nervous (night time is the worse) but have left everything - surgery, results, treatments in the Lord's Hand and am still praying that there is no cancer.

My question is how long will this surgery last? She did tell me I would be in the hospital for 4-5 days at least. Does this sound somewhat similar to what you have each gone through with your surgeries.

Thank you

HI!

so, i had surgery on the 29th...i had a laportomy surgery.  In oct.  they said that i had a 2 cm cyst on my left ovary and a 6cm cyst on my right ovary.  Doctor told me to get another ultrasound in 3 months.  I went back in Jan. to find out that the 2 cm cyst was gone but the 6cm cyst grew to 8 cm.   Doctor then sent me to a gyn.  who booked my for surgery right away.  He took all sorts of blood test as i told him i was concerned re: fertility because even though i have been married for 1.5 years, i have been sleeping w/ my husband for 5yrs and never used any protection and have never been pregnant...(sorry, i know that was irresponsible...we used the pull out method)

anyway, my blood tests came back normal, no cancer, hormones were okay, etc.

When i awoke from surgery, my stomach was sooo sore.  THe gyn told me that the cyst was bigger then he thought..it was actually 10-12 cm....he also advised me that i have a mild case of endometrosis...which put me in tears right away...i also have slight scarring on my left ovary.

What confused me was that the huge cyst wasnt on my right ovary, when he opened me up it was on the left!  How could he not know that???  He told me that i should not have any problems getting pregnant, but i dont believe him.  I also have a tilted uterus.   If i havent been pregnant ever,...then i obviously have a problem no?

as for the pain...from the 29-4th, i was in severe pain, i couldnt walk, bend it hurt alot.  Now my stomach is still swollen, it hurts to bend and the gas is what is unbearable...and i cant pass any bowel movements.  the fist bowel movement i passed since the surgery was on monday....and i also experience pressure when i pee....

Does anybody feel the same way?  I am off for 6 weeks....i cant deal with this for another 6 weeks...

All surgeries are different even if they are for the same thing.  Mine was supposed to be 3-4 hrs and ended up being 6.  I was in the hospital nine days.  Make sure you get up as soon as possible and walk.  Eat solid food as soon as possible.  They won't let you leave the hospital until you at least pass gas.  When I found out why they were keeping me in the hospital 4 extra days I was like, "there are ins companies that won't pay for liver transplants, but I am being kept in the hospital over a fart.  Does my insurance company know about this"?
I didn't and most people don't feel great in a couple of weeks.  It usually takes 4-6 wks to recuperate properly.  Don't push yourself.  Stay on top of the pain with pills before you have pain and get all of that gas out of you ASAP.
I will be praying for you
Good Luck

Thank you for responding. I am trying to get as much information as I can before surgery. I have a very supportive family (still somewhat shocked). It does take a toll on everyone, which I am sure each and everyone of you ladies know that. Thank you for you prayers and I will get back online as soon as I can after Monday. :)

In His Care,
Libby

Hi there. I'm not quite sure how long the surgery will take. Talk to your surgeon so he can give you some insight on the time. I just wanted to let you know I'll be thinking and praying for you. Please keep us updated on the surgery - with love, DEandra
