Surgical Hysterectomy

I am a 43 year old white female and had a Surgical hysterectomy on Sept 5.  I am dying of the night sweats to the point I have 5 fans going at all times the AC/ and thank GOD we have been having a cold spell here in Nashville so I have had the window open.  I was wondering if anyone has done any of the hormone replacement that is natural?  I am going crazy and need help.  I want to be happy and laugh once again so I am in high hopes someone can give me advice and when I find a really GOOD doctor I will post everything for everyone to know what can help (if it does)

Thank you
Lynn Beth

I have to stick my 2 cents in....you are posting on the OvCa forum...if you have or have been diagnosed with any form of OvCa, I would think twice before taking any form of HRT, including anything over the counter containing black cohash, soy or any other natural product that mimics estrogen.  It is important that you have an indepth discussion with your doctor before taking anything...and bio-identical does not mean that it is safe.

Dear Lynn Beth,

They took everything out of me with the cancer and I am not doing anything HRT wise, but a few years ago when I went through menopause I was seriously considering the bios.  If I were to take HRT's I would only do the bios.  I just didn't like the idea of taking something that is made out of pregnant horse urine. but the bios are yam based.  Anyway, there is a compounding pharmacy in Mt. Juliet that does bios, but they charge a fortune.  You have to buy a kit to swab your mouth and than you have to buy something else and something else.  It was like 450. bucks before you even got the cream to put on your skin.  There is another place down in Franklin that is also a compounding pharmacy, but with them it is like $45.00 for the swab kit and that is it except for the product itself.  The creams are about 45 a month if I remember correctly, but I can't count on that with this chemo brain. I did do quite a bit of research on compounding pharmacies in our area but there aren't to many.  Oh, I did find out that the one in Franklin is owned by a friend of my best friend and he said the Franklin guy was really an honest, decent man.  I talked to him on the phone a few times and he was very helpful.  He explained why I didn't need all of that stuff at the Mt. Juliet place and my GP confirmed what he said so...   Anyway, if you decide to go that route let me know and I will get you all the info.
If you have been enjoying our "cold snap" you are really going to love it tomorrow.

I am a 42 year old .....had a full hysterectomy in May 2007.. I am on the biodentical hormone patch - vivelle-dot...I also couldnt live with the hot flashes...I am on a very low dose 0.5 and it seems to keep the flashes at bay...there are times I get a hot one but for the most part it works great...I was not keen on being on the patch but after suffering for so long I was able to adjust my hormone level where I am at a comfortable level now..Without the patch my life was horrible...night sweats, mood swings..just an all around not good feeling..wishing you lots of luck and Mary is the girl for any questions as she is our Forum expert! Keep us posted...Gia :)

Hi,

I just got home from Madison, Wisconsin to watch the Gophers (University of Minnesota) beat the Wisconsin Badgers in Men's Hockey (and it was their Homecoming).  I have been gone since Friday morning or I would have responded sooner.

Thanks for alerting me to this post, Lori. I agree with your response with regards to doing homework, being an advocate for yourself, and for trying to figure out how you can feel well again.

I will post a message to Lori since this was posted a few days ago and might get buried again soon.

Hi, Mary53 will come along soon, hopefully, and she is our resident expert.  Yes you ARE, Mary!

Personally, I am on the Climara low dose estrogen patch (bio-identical) and am doing well.  I have an occasional hot flash at night but despite that, all is well.  Since surgery in March (I'm in surgical menopause...which is what I think you meant to say...I hope there isn't an option for a NON surgical hysterectomy! lol) I have only had to switch my dosage a couple of times but now I think we have a winner.

If your current doctor isn't well informed then keep searching.  You may have to do quite a bit of homework yourself.

Good luck!
