Update after surgery today

I had my BSO today and the Gyn Onc didn't see anything concerning for cancer.  He removed cysts and also had to clean up adhesions (which were likely causing much of my pain) but fortunately he was still able to do it via laporoscope.   I am optimistic that the Path will come back negative but won't have the results for 10 days, so time will tell.
I just wanted to thank all of you on this wonderful forum for taking the time to provide your amazing knowledge that you share.  Your advice and compassion are immeasurable!  If not for this forum I would not have known the importance of seeing a Gyn Onc which made me feel so much better knowing that he would know what to look for and how best to remove everything.
You are THE BEST!  I wish everyone a wonderful 2008 and will continue to check in on this forum, no matter what my Path results are.  It was so very helpful to me reading about experiences of others and I plan to share my experiences leading up to the outcome.
You are all in my prayers.

Thanks again for the well wishes.

rootietootie-thanks and Happy New Year to you too!

nolabean-I haven't been to New Orleans in a long time....but when I went for Mardi Gras (years ago) it was a blast!

Brownie3321-How are you doing?  I hope things are going well for you and 2008 will be great!

PDXSharon-I'm feeling fine.  Yes, I was able to come home the day of the surgery.  Surgery was at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning.  I'm not sure what time it was over, but I was happy that they were able to do it laproscopically (that morning my doctor told me that with adhesions often they are unable to complete it that way).  I think we left the hospital around 6:00 p.m. The anesthesiologist did an epidural to help with post op pain I believe.  (This might be because I had told the nurse that Morphine doesn't touch the pain for me.)  Anyway, it worked well for me.  I felt nauseous when we were on our way home and got sick when my husband stopped to buy me a bottled water.  After that I was fine.  I haven't had a pain pill since around 10:00 p.m. Saturday night.  The gas is still annoying but not as bad as I remember with my hysterectomy years ago.  I only have 3 cuts...belly button and one on each side (which are very small).  My belly kinda feels like sunburn  on the outside.  I am sore inside but not too bad.  The gas seems to stick around in my shoulder area though.  My doctor said that he thinks the adhesions were the main cause of my pain since there were alot around my right ovary as well as my bladder and both were stuck to other organs as a result of the adhesions.  He used something new that is supposed to help prevent future adhesions.  I can't remember what it is called but will find out at my follow up appointment.
How are you feeling?  I hope you are better each day and back to normal soon!  Your adhesions must have been much worse than mine to cause you so much pain.  It's hard to believe the trouble adhesions can cause!  (and surprising how little seems to be understood and explained by doctors when we are experiencing so much pain from them!)  If only my bowels would get moving again!

This is wonderful news! I am so glad to hear your surgery went well and all looks to be benign. How are you feeling otherwise? Were you able to go home the same day of the surgery? I'm not a drinker, but to you I lift my glass and say, "Cheers! And prayers to you and your family for a healthy and prosperous New Year!"

Thanks so much for your positive thoughts and prayers......you are all inspirational to everyone.  I will continue to spread the word in any way I can so that others will know the signs to look for.

What opened my eyes to the possibility of ovarian cancer was my former husband's former wife (I know it sounds strange but we are friends) who forwarded an e-mail to me.  That is when I started searching the internet and found medhelp.

Hillary I will pray that your surgery goes well and that your results will come quickly....I too am not known for my patience.  I think things we go through in life make us who we are and in turn teach us patience.

Hugs to everyone!

Lynn:)

I am so happy to hear things went well and I will be praying (something I hadn't done in a long time) for you to be cancer free. I hope you are feeling well and that you have a great new year, everyone here deserves a great year. I have my surgery on Jan 16th and I sure hope I don't have to wait 10 days for the path results, I am not known for my patience. Keep us posted and keep up the good spirits!! Hillary

Dear Lynn,

That really is wonderful news and you should celebrate.  (When you are up to it)
We are always happy to spread the word and now that you have had such a close call you can spread the word to other women who are unaware of just how little is covered in your yearly gyno exam.
Take care and stay cancer free
