What should I do next?

I am a 28 year old woman who was diagnosed with a solid mass on my left ovary.  I had a pelvic infection, and wound up in the ER and it was found by the ultrasound they completed.  I have a history of endometriosis, and have had 2 laparoscopies in the past 10 years.  They did not do the CA-125 test on me because of my history of endo.

I've been showing a lot of other symptoms with ovarian cancer.  I've started to show signs of ascites (I see my dr tomorrow), an increase in my waist, tiredness, heavier periods, bleeding between periods.

I just had another ultrasound done 2 nights ago.  My gyn can't fit me in until early next month (due to the holidays and vacations).

I know I'm only 28.  I know my chances of it being cancer is very small.  But it could still happen, and I don't know if I can keep myself sane waiting until February to get it biopsied.  I am scared, and I'm really nervous.  I just have a really bad feeling about this.

Should my next step be to wait until I see my gyn in January, or should I get a second opinion from a gynecologic oncologist? I have a recommendation to see someone, and I'd rather take the chance that a gyn/onc will take it out and it will be benign rather than have my gyn take it out and have it be malignant.

Any other advice?

Thanks so much

Melissa

Thanks Chris-I so appreciate you responding.

My f/u ultrasound showed a "echogenic area in the left ovary of unknown etiology, but continued follow up is recommended".  It is not a fibroid.

My abdomen has swelled up immensely-I look about 4 months pregnant.  None of my pants fit.  I'm going to my PCP tonight to have it looked at and will probably push for an MRI.

I wish there was more information-it especially concerns me with the new fluid.  I don't know what is going on with my body!

Thank you so much.

You are wise to prefer the gyn/onc if there is any suspicion of cancer.  If you can get a second opinion from one it's probably a good idea, and you are correct about having the gyn/onc perform the surgery - it's a much better way to go if there is any possibility of cancer.  Just because you have endometriosis doesn't mean you also can't have cancer, though hopefully you don't. I was loaded with endo, and also had ovca.  The earlier you find it the better.  Good luck, Chris P
