I was cut vertically because of the size of the cysts that they removed in my first surgery. I have 4 cysts, the largest being about 22cms and they were up really high, actually made me short of breath, that is why I was cut that way....then the 2nd surgery, done by a GYN/ONC, well, they just want to go in and look around and take samples while they are in there, so why not use the same incision line.
It is truly amazing the difference in medical care. I understand that the medical leave in the UK is longer then the States for the same surgery.
yes there is a vast difference between countries. I know we had similar surgery, butyour stay was 3 days mine 5. Your staples were in for 10 days, mine 5. You were cut verticle,me horizontal(sp). So the differences are not only in the app and waiting times ect but also in surgery. There are probably many more. Thanks for you help a while back also it really help me. Dawn(uk).
Just wanted to make sure you saw my post to you a few threads down...well, more than a few.

I said Honey Imjust fine you look after yourself and baby so mom can be in the delivery room with you in March)

It will be the biggest Christmas present you can receive or give to have your worries behind you. If it were me I would go for it asap.
Luckily, most ovarian cysts are benign. There is another wonderful lady that posts here, Tascha, she usually comes along and lets everyone know that most cysts, she uses 99 percent, are benign.
And if it is the big "C"...there is absolutely nothing you can do to change the diagnosis. At first you will rant, scream, cry and carry on and then with the help and support of your family, friends and the amazing people on the board, you will get through treatment and everything else....but, you are wasting a good panic....worry about only what you can control (I know, easier said then done, I would be no different).
The only way to truly diagnosis ovarian cancer is by sampling the tissue and having it biopsied. One of the numerous reasons that OvCa is usually not diagnosised until the late stages. There is no good test available to diagnosis this disease. That is why education is so important, right now it is the only early detection that exists.
Tomorrow will be over before you know it....and hopefully your mind will be eased!!!!

I am truely humbled by the courage you ladys face here. At times I feel so damn guilty about being 76 and in good health when so many of you are full of stress and worry about the rest of your lives. I took care of alot of cancer patients back in the days when they only had surgery. Now with all the advances they have made your chances for a full life is a reality. I just heard tonight that a new xray has been developed to catch breast cancer. Where mammograms missed about 30% this will catch 100%. I think you gals will see the end of cancer in your lifetimes. My prayers at night now are for you all.
Hi - thanks so much for your informative post - today I start writing down questions - I guess youmust of read all of my posts yesterday? The gyn here on Mauidid not return my call yes. so I am assuming she is not happy with me just going direct to the guy she would be referring me to...if it had grown and if I waited till Jan for secon dultrasound. I wonder if he will do another u/s? My guess is probably. The only thing that scares me is the big word "C" - that will be my first question to him!! And yes, by all accounts my uterus is fine as is the other ovary - and I understand much more conservative now about taking stuff out that doesnt need to be.
Have you heard lots of reports with complex cysts that are benign??? I sure am thinking of Mary today - her surgery is over as we speak and they "thought" she would be home this eve eastern time....you easterners are 5 hrs ahead of me here in the Pacific. WHen you mentioned Canadians with the big C having ot wait - well, doesnt surprise me. RIght now for a hip replacement, its a year and a half in British Columbia - just unbelievable in a Country like ours. We are losing some of our finest surgeons going elsewhere in the world, they are so frsutrated with the "Government control" of $$$$. I bet if any of their wives needed it, they would be in as fast as I can.
Gee I wonder if I should wiat till after Christmas.....
to have it done...prepare mentally love to hear back....

Here in the US, if no insurance, anyone can apply for help through social services and University Hospitals with medical facilities. I have several friends that are receiving services at this time from Iowa University for cancer at no cost to them. Also there are Womens clinics now throughout the states that help find funding for medical services. Women just need to be pro-active in finding out about the various systems that cover health problems. If a doctor makes a diagnosis of a life threatning disease they must make the effort to see that person gets the immediate attention they deserve. Maybe our medical costs are higher here but I would not want to wait months for the help I needed. I know that insurance rates are very high also, but we insure our cars, houses etc. Every one needs to budget in enough to cover their medical needs.
I had more to say but ran out of room.
As for the difference in medical care between the US and other countries really amazes me. I have learned the struggles of those outside of the US when it comes to getting appointments with doctors and surgeries through this board. I used to think that socialized medicine was the way to go. I know that the cost of medical care in the US is astronomical, but, the care is also much more readily available. When I was referred to my GYN/ONC, I called them on a Thurs and was in the office that following Monday. When I was having my 2nd surgery, I was in the doctors office on April 24th, and I had to ask them to wait to book my surgery until after Mothers Day. I have heard from people in Canada that know they have cancer and still have waited 2 or 3 months for surgery or appointments with GYN/ONCs. I hear the same thing in the UK as well. It's true too, that here in the US there are many people that do not have medical coverage making it difficult for them to obtain medical treatment, but, with socialized medicine everyone is entitled to medical care.
I have rambled on long enough....good luck tomorrow....and I will be thinking about you.
