depression/moodiness following removal of ovary and cyst

I'm 41 and a few weeks ago I began experiencing serious pain because of an ovarian cyst.  The first gynecologist that I saw gave me a depo provera birth control shot to prevent future ovulation and formation of cysts.  However, this did nothing for my immediate pain.  The second gynecologist surgically removed my left ovary and cyst and fallopian tube.  I also have a complex cyst on my right ovary but gives me no pain.  Although I feel recuperated following surgery almost 2 weeks ago, I have been experiencing terrific mood swings and weep at the drop of a hat.  I am wondering if this could be a result of the depo shot, the surgery, or combination.  Please help...my husband is at his wits end!

I am 29 and was recently told that I have a cyst on my Ovary. My left Ovary. I have not had a stedy period for the past few years. It comes on once maybe every three months. But when it comes, boy I have a world of pain. This last time is when they told me it was a cyst. I have not had it removed. I had some light pink bleeding yesterday and I was wondering could it have burst. I also had an extremely emotional day, mood swings, nervousness, crying, paranoia. I thought that I was going crazy last night. I do not do drugs and I do not drink. I got mad at my best friend and cursed him out for talking to my other friend and not calling to check on me.

WHAT IS GOING ON???

I too had my left ovary, tube endometrioma cyst and endometriosis removed last November.
I experienced some depression and mood swings a few weeks following my surgery.  I went to my post op appt with my Gyn-oncologist surgeon for a 2 week follow up.  I was unable to ask any questions for I was on the verge of tears, I had my list and as I looked at a question i had that burning feeling in my eyes.  I told him no, I dont have any questions, you covered everythign!  Once I got to my car, i lost it...I sat there and cried for 10 minutes. One week later, I went to my regular gyn and was still weepy but was able to ask question...one of which was "is this normal".  She told me yes most defiantly.....it can set in after any surgery...I would say it lasted 10 days to two weeks.  Hang in there!!

It is normal.  At least that is what my doctor told me.  I had an ovary, tube, and a large endometrioma removed in December.  About three weeks after the surgery, I experienced the same mood swings and mild depression that you described.  Just knowing it was a normal response to the surgery and change in hormone levels helped me.  My mild depression lasted about two weeks, and since then I have been fine.
