Very scared, need some information

I am freaking out! I have just found out that I have a "significant" ovarian cyst: 14 cm by 10 cm on my right ovary and a small one on each ovary.  I have a very bloated abdomen, have had this for months.  I also have back pain in my lower back that seems like it is muscular, only occurs when I lean over to do work (like picking things up, or laundry).  It is not constant, but related to exertion and has been occurring for at least a year or longer..  My doc says that the ct scan did not suggest cancer, but he did a ca125 test which will take a week to get the results on. I am 50 years old.  I am still having my period, it has been VERY heavy for the last 4 years.  I am so worried I have cancer, I have a 6 year old daughter, my only child, and I am so concerned for her if something should happen to me.  I"m wondering if the size of my cyst suggests cancer, or if anything else I've said suggests cancer. I guess I'm just looking for a shoulder to cry on.  I'm so upset.

Thanks to all for your comforting words.

I talked to my gyn today and he said they are still waiting on results. I'm going to see him tomorrow, so that will help my feelings.  I am going to find an oncologist in the meantime,  because I'm not a wait and see kind of person.  You have given me some good ideas and I will follow up tomorrow to let you know what I find out. Waiting is awful!

Can you get an appointment with a gyn/oncologist?  That would be what I'd do. l also don't know why it would take a week for the CA125 results. I get mine in about an hour. Size of a tumor isn't a good indicator of cancer. They also can't tell for sure from a scan. I am pretty sure they need a biopsy.  Chances are you are okay, but it is important to be sure. Keep pushing until you get the help you need. I wish you the best. Let us know how you are doing and come here anytime for information and for a friend. Marie

I'm a Brit living in Spain and have a 5cm cyst and the sonographer has reccommended a biopsy.  I see the doctor tomorrow to find out more so I know just how you are feeling.  My real problem is I don't speak spanish well and Spain seems to be so behind with the modern surgical tequniques - I've seen huge scars where in the UK and presumabley USA keyhold surgery would be used.  Look on the bright side you are only 36 with regular periods so it is unlikely to be the big C, besides the CT scan shows no sign.  If it's the cause of all your discomfort better out than in!!!!  Then you will be back to your old self and able to enjoy your daughter and stop worrying.  Besides what's there is there and making your self sick with worry won't help you or your daughter, who is probabley wondering what is going on behind the scenes, kids are amazingly perceptive and pick up on things we think we have kept from them.  Chin up and keep in touch letting us all know what the news.  Put money on it being benign though!!

I can sympathize with how you feel while waiting over the long weekend to hear something back from your doctor. I encourage you to call your doctor's office mid-morning on Monday and ask them to check if your test results are in yet. If no, then call again in the afternoon and again on Tuesday. Our caregivers are very busy and our particular situations aren't their formost concern as they have other patients they are working with also. Take control of the wheel, be the squecky wheel and tell your doctor you want proof asap that you don't have ovarian cancer. I hope you are seeing a gynecological- oncologist and if not, find one on Monday. Tell his office what the CT Scan report states and get an appoirntment imediately.  If the pain becomes unbearable from the asites fluid that is causing the bloating (confirm that on the CT Scan report-get yourself a copy), take yourself to your local emergency room with the CT Scan disk or report in your hand. Don't wait a week for your doctor to call you. You'll just worry yourself sick.I will check back to see how you are doing. Benign cysts would be a wonderful news.
