What are the likelihood it's cancer?

Dr. Goodman,

I am 42 y.o. and just got news that I have a 6cm cyst on my left ovary.  I have had a hysterectomy, was diagnosed with Leventhal-Stein syndrome in my 20's, have diabetes, high BP and in the past 10 months have lost weight, had cramping, back pain and to top it all off my grandmother died of ovarian cancer when she was around my age in 1950 (her death certicate has cause of death inoperable ovarian cancer on it).  What are the chances that this cyst may be cancerous?  I have a gynocology appt. in two weeks.

Dr. Goodman,

I just got more news on my mass on my ovary.  I have a bilobate mass the larger component is thin walled and the smaller component is 4 cm and is thick walled.  What are the chances that both will be benign?

hi There,
Most cysts are benign. It is not possible to guess beyond that. However, I am sorry for the fear and stress you must be experiencing as you wait to have this evaluated. I imagine, that you will be counseled to have this ovarian cyst surgically removed and analyzed. Please let us know how this goes for you
best wishes
