Diagnosis Without Looking at Ultrasound? Complex Cyst

I was diagnosed with a complex ovarian cyst last week. The radiologist report doesn't say much, just that I have a complex cyst that measures 2.7x2x1.9 cm and there is no fluid in the cul-de-sac. I had an appointment today with a GYN. She read the report and said that she wasn't worried at all and that it was probably a cyst with blood in it. I had the ultrasound in a DVD (since the lab I had the ultrasound with did not give me films), which she didn't look at. How can a medical professional just shrug off like that just by looking at my face and a report that doesn't say much? I also have had the hardest time getting a second opinion since no Dr. will look at the DVD of the ultrasound and I keep getting the "oh you shouldn't worry, it's probably nothing." I still don't understand how will any Dr. make a diagnosis without looking at the cyst itself. I found my cyst because mid-way to the end of my period my left ovary started hurting. I feel this dull, pulling pain especially when I am driving or sitting for too long. For the discomfort she  said to take Advil and took the wait and see approach. Have to wait 6 weeks for an ultrasound.
I have a second appointment next week, but I feel completely lonely, scared, and down right helpless.
I am 31 years old, have had no kids, really want to have children, have no history of ovarian cancer in my family, but have had 2 cysts removed one from each breast, that turned out to be fibroadenomas.

hi... i had a scan 3 week ago and  when i visited  the gyn at the hospital he would not look at the report or the scan just said that he thinks i have cancer,   but the report said they think it is a endo cyst as it is very large.  i have a CT scan on the 28th of this month then have to sit and wait to see if it is or not
at least your GYN looked at it
good luck chris (uk) sorry about the spelling

The Gyn most likely read the report the radiologist sent, they usually don't look at the picutres themselves.  The radiologist are the doctors that specialize in  this field of medicine, if they suspected anything, they will write it in the report.  The Gyn that you are seeing is following protocol, with a cyst the size of yours, they will wait and watch and being pre-menopausal, there is a good chance that the cysts will shrink.  The pains you fell could be smaller cysts bursting.
Unfortunately, most cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed through biopsy of the actual mass, unless the cyst is truly suspicious and/or there are changes to the shape and/or size will a doctor biopsy the mass.
Continue to follow up with your Gyn....hopefully the next scan will show that the cysts have disappeared.
If you have other questions related to the cyst, there is a great cyst forum and you will most likely get a lot more responses on that forum than you will here.

Best of luck to you.
