Worried sick

Hi, my history is: infertility tx 20 yrs ago with Clomid, resulting in a live birth. I also had an tubal pregnancy, and after surg. my hcg levels were still climbing, so I went right back into surg, and the Dr. found a pregnancy in one of my ovaries (which I understand is rare).
I am now 46 yrs old, and 2yrs ago my OBG retired(only doc I ever had care for me)so I went to my FP for my well woman exam.  She stated that my uterus was a little enlarged, so I should have a pelvic ultrasound.
I had the ultrasound, and following are the results:  Transabdominal and endovaginal images are obtained. The uterus is retroverted and measures 11.3 x6.2 of 7.65cm. Nabothian cyst are present. along the endocervical canal being up to 9mm in diameter.Free fluid is present in the cul-de-sac. Endometrial stripe is prominent at 1.7cm to be correlated with menstrual cycle.  No discrete leiomyoma are seen.
Normal ovarian blook flow bilaterally.
The left ovary measures 2.4 x 4.3 x3.2 cm. the 4mm calcified ring-like abnormality is present within the left ovary.  In addition there is a 1.5cm complex cyst within the lft ovary.
The right ovary measures 2.6 x1.2x 1.8cm retains an 8mm follicular syst.
Impression:
1 retroverted uterus
2 prominent endometrial stripe
3 complex cystic and calcified masses within the left ovary
4 the follicular cyst on the right ovary.

My FP has referred me to an OBG, but I can't get into her til next week, and I am so terrified by what this means.  My FP didn't give me her opinion , and I can't stop crying.

Any insight?

Thanks,   Jo Ann

Thanks for your reply.  I felt like my results were some kind death sentence, and I am not ready for that. My husband and I have been married for 27 years, and it just isn't long enough yet.  My exam was on 10/04, and the first day of my last period was 9/15.  I am just so scared it could be cancer, but I don't have any family history, or personal history of ovarian or breast cancer.  Is is possible that it is not cancer?

Again, thanks for the info, and calming words.

Dear Jo Ann,
Alot of ultrasound interpretation depends on where you are in your menstrual cycle.

a retroverted uterus is a normal variation, and means the uterus bends back towards the rectum as opposed to forward towards the bladder "anteverted". Anither common term for a retroverted uterus is a "tipped" uterus.

a prominent strip in someone who is about to have a period is normal, it is just the build up of the lining which will be sloughed off in a menstruation. A prominent endometrial stripe in someone who is menopausal (no period for one year or more) is abnormal and can represent a polyp or growth

the ovarian cysts could represent scar from your ovarian pregnancy and/or ovulation.

so when you see the OB - that doctor may suggest a biopsy of the lining of your uterus and a repeat ultrasound after another menstrual cycle
take care
