i have had a hysterectomy close to 10 years ago which included a left oophorectomy, i have continued to complain of pelvic and back pain, left groin and hip pain, extreme and intense that has now gone to daily and constant, six months ago during a CT for other reasons, a mass was found on my left side of unknown origin, an ultrasound was then completed and i was told there is no mass, but that the us would be completed agiin before gyn annual, which is shortly approaching, this us was completed a couple weeks ago and i was told that my left ovary was there and intact, that it indeed had not been removed, stated impression says the hypodense mass remains,  and that it is hypechoic with a cystic component, diagnosis includes ovarian cystic neoplasm, in the ovary or residual ovary versus enteric duplication cyst?  To your knowledge what does all this mean?

Hello and thank you for getting back to me, i do have a copy of all of my crazy reports, a CT i had stated the left side mass was 3 cm, the most recent ultra sound states nearly 2 cm, its funny you mentioned  diverticulosis and itis, i have been told in the past that i have osis, as far as the reason for my hysterectomy, i did battle endometriosis for years prior to my surgery, i am just in awe at the fact that i was told my left ovary was removed and i am being told now that it is there???What is meant by hypodense and hypechoic?  What is neoplasm and can this suggest cancer? What does residual ovary versus enteric duplication cyst mean? As far as pain it is daily and constant and restricts range of motion etc.  I would appreciate any further information. thanks!

Hi There,

You should ask for a copy of all your cray reports so that you can see the exact wording of the reports and the size of the mass. On the left side, a common reason for masses and pain include diverticulosis and diverticulitis. This is a condition of the large intestine where small abscesses can form from a weakness in the wall of the bowel.

It is also possible, depending on your age, that the mass is related to the ovary.

Understanding what that could be requires understanding why you had a hysterectomy 10 years ago. If you had endometriosis, you may have a cyst of endometriosis that has persisted. Those can be very painful.

Finally you should ask your gyn doctor if there is a role for looking inside with laparoscopy to understand better what is going on.
best wishes to you
