If the carbo/taxol didn't help you and the avastin didn't help then the avastin/abraxane combo probably isn't the right one as abraxane is yet another variation on the taxol theme --- Good luck with the Gemzar -- when mine gets out of control again (i'm not in remission but am taking arimidex for a while to give me a chemo break) they are trying Topotecan most likely --- I hope the Gemzar works for you and thanks for posting the info about the avastin -- I've been waiting for that
I'm so happy for your wife!!!!!!
Genentec(sp?) is the pharmaceutical manufacturer. I got covered through them. I believe you have to have an income less than $100,000 year. I was told by someone that the FDA did approve it a few weeks ago. Her Doctor told her that medicare was going to reimburse her for the amounts she laid out. Another friend is getting it covered through Medicare.
Unfortunately, the Avastin and cytoxan did not work for me so the onc changed my treatment to Gemzar. I'm hoping and praying that this works. I wanted my onc to give me the avastin with another chemo, but he didn't want to do it. Tomorrow I am going for another opinion. I will ask about the Avastin/ abraxine combo. Thanks so much for that info. Sherry
What particular kinds of ovarian cancer do you all have? Recurrent or first time around? I am on a clinical trial right now, but if it doesn't work for me, I will be hoping for something that will. Please let me know what you have and the details!
Maggie
My clinical trial involves standard treatment plus Avastin or placebo. Starting tomorrow, hope I get the good stuff!
There seems to be several women in the clinic doing trials on this drug so it must be soon.
Don't take this as gospel, but I remember reading somewhere it was slated for FDA approval in 2009. I will do some more research and see if I can find the actual article in which I read it, so perhaps you can do some of your own research, too. I am waiting for it, myself, as right now, my insurance company will not pay for it. I'm trying other things to try to keep things stable until Avastin can be used. Here's wishing us all good luck!
