My wife was diagnosed with Stage III ovarian at the very beginning of 2000. She is now on her 3rd recurrence. However, her second recurrence was treated with Doxil and it pushed her into remission for about a year. She did not experience many of the common symptoms with Doxil but did get some soreness of the hands and feet toward the end of her treatments. She had 8 treatments with the Doxil.
She is now being treated with Topotecan. Her CA125 had risen to 177 and her scan showed a golf ball size tumor on her abdominal wall near the colon. She's now had 7 treatments with Topotecan (one per week) and next week will have a CA125 drawn to see if the Topotecan is working.
Just wanted to let you know that the Doxil can work and not everyone is incapacitated by the side effects.

I too, was diagnosed with 3C in Sept. 05, did 6 cycles of taxol and carbo finishing in Feb. 06 and reoccurrence found on scans in Feb., my CA 125 does not rise. I had a PET scan that showed 2 lesions and a couple on the colon. I had surgery 3 weeks ago and will start Carbo and Doxil the beginning of May. This combination was reported on in the Annals of Oncology in February, as getting good results. I am concerned about quality of life with Doxil also, since I exercise daily, however I want the best shot available, so I will do it, and get a sun screen shirt for the summer. Good luck to you.
they did a radioactive full body scan on my daughter because her scans had been coming back clear but the CA125 level was raising, They found 4 very small lesions on the abd wall that did not show on the reg scans. She just started a clinical trial of Topotecan and Tykerb. Bladder and chest scan were clear.
