bloody ascites

I have had low grade ovarian cancer for 14 years. I had a hysterectomy in 1994. I have had chemo three times and each time my ca125 gets higher. My cancer has been controlled all these years with anti estrogens. Lately my Onco/gyno has left me on Tamoxifen when in the past I would take Arimidex when the Tamoxifen ran out. Whenever it runs out I fill up with ascites. It is usually honey colored when it is drained. This time it was a deep red. I have been loosing blood to the point that I have had to take blood transfusions. Where does the blood come from? Gwen Gray Texas Granny

I feel as  though I am lucky. More women with low grade cancer  die from chemo or radiation. If the cancer is not controlled, it eats into your bowels blocking them. This is the second cause of death. MD Anderson is presently doing a research study on which medications are the best. I wanted to take Femara because my Tamoxifen ran out. It lasts about two years, then I switch to another estrogen blocker, and two years later back to Tamoxifen. I actually have had no side effects with Tamoxifen, but I know women who have had problems similar to going through the change. Arimidex made me look bad inside. The doc never explained, but he won't give it to me. I was given a 40% chance of living 5 years, and here I am  14 years later still going like the little energizer bunny. I watched my two older grandchildren grow up and our son had two sweeties after he was 35. So, I have been blessed. Gwen

You two ladies are very brave indeed......I know life isn't fair, but it is simply way unfair you two should even be having such a conversation.  I have nothing valuable to contribute, but I wanted to acknowledge you guys and your spirit.....you are amazing women.  I hope your Holidays are filled with lots of family, love and laughter.....and that your New Year is finally filled with lots of good health and good times.
Peace to you both.

I'm also about to start Tamoxifen for the first time and so would also be interested in any and all side effects that you might have and why do you think Femara is better??  Thanks in advance~~~~Joanne
