boderline ovca stage 1a. Hysterectomy or not?

Hi, just after some advice from others who may have been in a similar situation. I'm 32 and 5 weeks ago had emergency surgery (lapratomy) to remove a football sized ovarian cyst that had burst. I didn't even know I had the cyst as I put the symptoms all down to being pregnant. Sadly I lost the baby at 23 weeks 3 days before the surgery. I already have 2 little girls but dearly wanted another baby, The lab work on the cyst shows it was a mucinous tumor of borderline malignancy. I was staged during the surgery and there was no spread and the washing and fluid in the abdo were clear. The offending ovary was removed.

The situation is complicated by the fact I have pre-cancerous cells that have been removed twice from my cervix. These are high grade neoplasia in the glandular cells (GCIN). I was offered a hysterectomy for this problem last July but declined as we wanted to complete our family (had loop diathermy instead). Now I need to decide wheter to go for a hysterectomy and remove the other ovary or be closely monitored. I could even try for another baby if I get a clear smear test (had one taken on Thursday) an abodominal stitch put in to help hold the pregnancy in place. However I am scared and worried and feel I have a duty to stay as healthy as I can for the two children I already have. I'm also worried about HRT as it just seems so confusing!

Thanks for any help.

Yup! Heffmeister is correct, my surgeon left one ovary also so that I would not go through menopause at the age of 26. Best of luck to you on you surgery and a fast recovery. When I had mine I had two young ones at home my son was 3yrs old and my daughter was only 6mths old thank god my mother-in-law was there to take care of me and my husband took some time off. Take all the help you can my biggest problem was I would feel really good and start overdoing it and it would land me right back in bed for a few days. Your in my thoughts and prayers, take care of yourself

Yes you do not need HRT wwith one ovary. The remaining one is supposed to take over completely.

I am scheduled tomorrow morning for a complete hysterectomy. I am considering having him leave my one good ovary but fear that will bring back endometriosis. My question is this. Leaving your 1 ovary was that enough to keep you from taking hrt?

i cant give you any adivse as to what to do, but i can tell you my story and maybe that might help. I was 26 yrs old when I had a hysterectomy ( I had a son and daughter already) for the same reason as pre cancerous cells. At that time that was the only thing they could do, they did leave one ovary. I'm 50 yrs old and having trouble again with the remaining ovary and I wish I had it removed with everything else. I feel that I was very blessed by being able to have the two children I did have because there are alot of women who cant have children including my aunts and cousins. I made the decision to have the hysto because I had two babies that needed a mother and I just couldnt take that from them. I have 6 grandchildren today and another on the way, I feel I made the right decision. I wish you lots of luck.
