books that helped me re. nutritional aspects

These books have helped me understand and  evaluate nutritional aspects for my Mom's recovery strategy-- she was cancer-free for 6 years. All of these include references to medical studies which are hard to trace by yourself--especially as you would have to pay for each article if you order them on-line from, say, the New England Journal of Medicine. My co-worker had access to original sources, and shrank her tumor with a similar strategy after it had come back after chemo--it is possible and that was good to know for us, and I hope, for you.

These may not all be in print now:

Verne Varona: nature's cancer fighting foods (very conplex but easy to understand for those without medical experience, both of author's parents died of cancer)
Professor Jane Plant: Your life in your hands (Dr who studied and beats her own breat cancer--same causes as ovarian, mainly dairy--sat next to someone on the plane whose (British) MD had recommended  it to her--we had both started talking because we had ordered the same special meal.)
Michiko Kushi: A macrobiotic approach to cancer (and some other books) We didn't do macrobiotics, but it helepd understand some body--food related aspects, and has all references to studies.

There are new ones out there now, and I would appreciate suggestions as we are at it again this year...

I read that somewhere, too, about vit C strengthening cancer cells during chemo. Like you, I stick to the recommendations of the best oncologists, the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute.  Marie

There is an article today in my Windsor Star newspaper from the Canwest News Service entitled:
"Vitamin C blunts effect of chemo, scientists find"

To quote this article further:
"Studies in mice and human cancer cells in petri dishes show vitamin C blunted the effects of a wide range of anti-cancer drugs.  Overall, 30 to 70 per cent fewer cancer cells exposed to vitamin C were killed depending on the dose and the drug tested."

My understanding of the article is that the antioxidant properties in Vit C help cancer cells survive as chemo needs oxygen to kill cancer cells.

Not trying to be an information fascist here, will stick with my docs recommendations for now.

I am also getting this one, recommended by these doctors doing a study on IV Vit c, Kansas University:

"How important are diet and oral supplementation?
Diet plays a huge role in the protocol. Dr. Drisko and Dr. Khosh use the four-point program: diet, oral supplements, intravenous vitamin C and chemotherapy or radiation.  They highly recommend the book

Beating Cancer with Nutrition by Patrick Quillin.

Oral supplements are recommended on a case by case basis."

I am telling you that medical studies on nutrion in these books discuss these aspects (including dairy, but not all by far!), and what CONTRIBUTED to beat my mom's cancer, thank me kindly for my time, you "information fasicsts", (or runners of dairy farms?)

My own reproductive system problems, 1 precancerous, went away when i tried out fpr myself the same approach to see if you can live on such a diet, and each time i get lazy,  it starts again. My mom had no reoccurence for 6 years--thre are other reasons, nto just milk, but it's a part of if for many if you react to it this way.I am very THANKFUL someone pointed me in this direction and didn't keep this info for themselves just to avoid having people such as you outlash at them.

This is not about BLAMING peopple, it's about finding the reason for an often fatal health problem!

And don't scream at me. "How dare you", same to you.

Get well soon you two.

I stopped drinking milk at 2 years old.  My mom stopped at 6 years old.  My grandma never drank milk, ate cheese, or put cream in her coffee.  Yet all 3 of us got ovca. To each his own when it comes to diet, but to suggest dairy products are the cause of ovarian cancer is ridiculous to me.  Marie
