borderline mucinous cyst

Please could someone tell me what the recommended follow up is after removal of a borderline mucinous cyst? My 17 year old daughter had a very large one removed in November and a smaller cyst and part of her other ovary removed. She had an MRI done in January which was clear but her consultaant is now suggesting that she doesn't have another MRI until October. I understood the check ups to be 3 monthly for the first 2 years. I am really worried as my daughter has the rest of her life in front of her and has a deep desire to have a family of her own. I feel that 9 months between MRIs is far too long as by that time if another cyst was growing it would be too late and she would lose her other ovary.

I had a mucinous tumor (not boderline, I don't know if that makes a difference). My onc/gyn at a major cancer center has told me that she will not order any more CT scans unless there is a reason. My CA-125 is low. She has read journal articles which indicates that the radiation from the scans may be more dangerous than not having the scans. I had one after I finished chemo and no more. It's been a year since I was diagnosed

You are a very lucky woman to have the cyst on your daughter's ovary found so early!!  I do certainly understand how anxious you are and I too would want to have those check ups more often than is being suggested......I doubt I would want to wait that long either.  All you can do is ask the gyn if he/she would agree to test earlier and if not why......anyway, congrats and good luck to you both.  Please do check in off and on to let us know what is going on.
Peace.

Hi.  First, I'm sorry that you and your daughter are going through this.  Your daughter is so young!

I had a borderline tumor in my right ovary and because of my age had a full hysterectomy.  The gyn oc has scheduled me for a follow-up in 6 months.

There's no set protocol for follow-ups.  My only guess is that they feel since her MRI was clear after 3 months, that another one isn't necessary until October.

If it would make you feel more at ease, you could get a second opinion, or better yet ask the doctor why 9 months and not 3 or 6 months.
