I am having carbo/gemzar right now. I just finished my 6th round (12th tx) and will start my 7th next week. I've had very little nausea but have dealt with bone pain and mouth sores and as always, fatigue. But everyone reacts differently. As Donna said, these two hit your blood counts pretty hard. I am having an especially difficult time because I went almost straight from carbo/taxotere to carbo/gemzar so my bone marrow did not have any real recovery time. I get neulasta each cycle, but my onc has pulled his patients off procrit and aranesp due to current controversy about those drugs. I have needed red blood and platelet transfusions and always develop large bruises when my platelets get critically low. I have managed to work full time from home throughout this treatment, as the side effects can be dealt with. Good luck.
Hi, I did carbo/gemzar for four treatments on recurrence. My numbers went to 23 from 260. I had the nausea a few days and low platlelts and red and white blood counts. I took neupogen and aranesp, and never had to have a transfusion. On the 4th treatment I reacted to carbo and was switched to cytoxan/gemzar. I hope it works well for you, others have taken it longer w/o the reaction. Donna
