clear cell type ovarian cancer symptoms

Rao

My wife is just diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer of Clear Cell type, Stage 1A. All the GYN organs are removed in the surgery.
She developed hyper coagulability and Deep Vein Thrombosis(DVT)/Pulmanory Embolism(PE) about 4 months back. Found a 8x6x5cms tumour on the right ovary. Removed the Omentum also.

Heard that clear cell type is an agressive one and wondering there are any prognosis statistics on this sub type. Also, heard that this type has higher incidence of hyper coagulability. Wondering whether there are any statistics on this symptom.

We are hopeful as the doctor said Stage 1A. Appreciate thoughts from the group and discussion from patients with similar history.

Its amazing to hear so many similar stories to my own. And I thought I was the only one! I discovered I had clear cell ovarian cancer 1c last year whilst pregnant. Ive had a full hysterectomy and am just coming to the end of six rounds of chemo (taxol/carbo). Hang in there!

Hi Fran,
Yes our stories are very similar. was your tumor encapsulated as well? Because it was clear cell i was told to do 6 treatments of carboplatin and taxol (however, i had an allergic reaction to taxol and it was substituted for taxotere-the sister drug). My treatment went fine and i was given an injection of neulasta each time so that my whites bounced back quickly.my last ca125 post treatment was a 2 !  I was thrilled. i have another ca125 coming up in Feb. I was told i need to have this test now every 3 months for 2 years and then i think every 6 months. this clear cell can be a complication from endometriosis. i also never knew i had it. however, what prompted me to ask for an ultrasound is that i was bleeding heavy during my periods. mind you i asked my gyno (not univ of Miami-another previous gyno) for the test. Noone suggested it. I caught this cancer early myself w/active persistence. i read the gilda radner book and she motivated me. if you dont mind me asking, how old are you and have you ever had children? i am 45 and never had children and am of the ashkenazi jewish descent so i knew i had some risk factors. where are you treating? i treated in florida at univ of miami /sylvester cancer. they have wonderful doctors there. highly respected. what did your doctor tell you your survival rate would be? i have been told about 90% with the chemo. I had 20 lymph nodes tested and all clean. Regards Joy2727

Hi! I was diagnosed w/ stage 2 clear cell ovarian cancer. I am still confused why stage 2 if it was confined in my right ovary and metastasized to the peritoneum. Anyway, I had surgery Oct. 26 but started aggressive chemo after a month right away. It could have been started earlier but I had an infection on my wound and it was not totally healed. I'll be on my 4rth cycle of IP chemo taxol/cisplatin this coming Feb. 4. So far, I'm doing fine just the usual fatigue and loss of appetite/ taste buds bitter on the first 3-4 days after chemo but after that my energy and appetite comes back. I have neupogen injections to treat low white counts and it increased high enough to withstand me for the chemo. This certain side effect is well taken cared of.
I hope I can finish the whole cycle so I can be relieved partially and move on to supposedly face life after treatments. It's a long journey you know, and once you have cancer it's really a battle 'cause it's not a smooth ride. There are ups and downs and etc.
Prognosis depends really on the over all health of a patient, type and stage of the cancer. Otherwise healthy, no other medical condition that could hinder the body to withstand chemotherapy treatments. Age also takes credit.
Good luck to your mom and prayers too!

HI, my mom had surgery Oct 1st for a huge tumor in her belly, she had a complete hysterectomy and did very well.  Pathology turned up to have clear cell.  Chemo was suggested, we got  a second opinion and the same was suggesed,  carbo/taxol.  All her scans are normal ans her ca125 dropped to 24 from 225.  She didn't want the chemo due to her normal tests, the Drs. said it IS a very agressive cancer and she will be getting chemo for preventative reasons.  She will be starting chemo on Jan 14, her chances we drop to less than 10% of reaccurance.  I'm scared for her and I know she is petrified!  Good luck with your wife Rao, I will keep you both in my prayers!

Hi,

I'm a new member. I had sugery for Stage 1a grade3 clear cell ovarian cancer on October 5th, 2007. Hysterectomy, both ovaries, omentum, appendix, several biopsies negative. I will be starting chemo next week. Initially I had a complex cyst on my right ovary after a lap, endometriosis was found, never knew I had it.  Our stories sound similar. I felt I had to comment.  Did you do chemo, I'm pretty overwhelmed right now but kepp busy and try to keep my spirits up.

Hi Jane,
I was wondering you said you were stage 1a-does that mean your cell was encapsulated and also did they check your lymph nodes and your omentum as well? was the cell clear cell? i had stage 1a clear cell encapsulated and it was caused from endometriosis which no doctor knew I had until they opened me up for the cyst. It didnt even show on pelvic ultrasound or mri. in fact the cancer never showed up beforehand either-all they knew when ihad a pelvic ultrasound was that it was a "complex" cyst but they werent sure what it was until they took it out and it was sent to pathology. Thats scary. I had initially elected to have an ultrasound b/c of heavy bleeding during my periods. Noone recommended that i have one until I was insistent. I was the one that caught my cancer early. I heard that stage 1a prognosis is 80-90% range. Wondering whether there is any hard number based on clear cell sub type.

Wondering whether I can get any references to the DVT & Cancer studies.
