Is there anyone on this site in a clinical trial?
Hi Janet, found out that the clinical trial is a phase 1 trail with either Aurora a Kinase Inhibitor or Xeloda and it will start in January. I am really confused because with my history why would he start me with a phase 1 trial. What do you sister on this site think of this and is anyone here on a phase 1 trail?
I have been on tax/carbo, carbo alone, doxil, topotecan, and topotecan again I had a 6-month remission and gemzar. Dx 2002, stage 1c, grade 3, recurrence in 2005.

I realize how fortunate I have been. I have lost dear friends to this "stalker" cancer and it so unfair. I am still grieving the loss of my dear friend Kelly. I am so glad we went to Camp Mak-a-Dream together in Nov.
Of course, I have no way of knowing, but I'm thinking the fact that I am BRCA2 positive has been to my advantage. I try to keep up with studies, etc. and they have found that BRCA positive women have better survival rates and time between occurrences. My CA125 increased this week more than it has ever but my scan yesterday was NED. I can now consider a mastectomy. I did not want to do this and be dealing with a recur.
I check this site daily and think of all of you. I spend a lot of time reading and learning and attending conferences and will be happy to share any information you would like. I was recently asked to speak at the Association of Research Professionals conference and hope that I helped clinical trial professionals better understand the patient perspective.

Thank you so much for the information. It looks to me that you DID get Avastin. Because I've never heard of many Stage IV patient making it so long without a recurrence. Is there not one side effect that you might have that you can claim it as an side effect just for your edification. I know I would be trying to find one. You should consider yourself blessed at this point. How very exciting!

I was initially diagnosed Stage IV. After pathology stageIIIIC. I am in GOG 218, the same trial I think Bohan54 mentioned above. When I enterered the trial in 2006, it was just for suboptimally debulked patients, but I think it has expanded to optimally debulked patients now. It is with avastin and has 3 arms, so I had 2 chances to get avastin and will never know whether or not I did. I am now in the monitoring stage and get CT scans every 3 months for 2 years (I have one more year). For the 2 year monitoring, there's, of course no possible individual benefit for me. Although I do not like scans and am concerned about the radiation, I am planning to stick with the trial. I want to do everything possible to help find a cure for this "stalker cancer".
Your profile does not tell what stage you were diagnosed in 2006. It would be great if you would tell us here. Can you also tell us how often you have the Avastin trial and what status the trial was when it began on you. IOW, tell us as much as you can.

I admire those of you that are on clinicals. I have been looking into clinicals in case this 4th protocol doesn't work.
Actually, I am sort of on an unofficial clinical trial. My onc has me on a carbo/doxil combo and I am the first patient he has tried it on in his 30 + years of practice. There was a French study done in 2007 that showed that this combo worked well in late stage ovca patients with extensive liver involvement. (13 liver tumors, largest 2.9cm) He said I was the first patient that he thought was a good candidate for it.
They don't do a lot of reasearch & testing about how cancer drugs that are already FDA approved work together, because they need that money for new drugs. I am hoping that the new drugs, along with a better understanding of the old drugs, will lead to a cure or at least a good long remission for all of us.

I have been on a clinical trial since my diagnosis in 2006. It is one of the avastin trials.

Keep us posted as to what you are going to be taking. No doubt there will be others on the forum that will be on it to. I know we all experience different side effects even when we are taking the same chemo buut at least you can get an idea of what to expect.
I've been on the trial for 10 months now and have had some good results as far as my tumor size and CA125 count goes. But my last appointment showed a rise in my count so I'm waiting to see what happens this time around. Fortunately my appointment is tomorrow, so not much longer to wait.....

Thanks Janet, I am not sure what kind of trial I am going to have. My appointment is on Thrusday and I will know then. How is this Phase 3 trial working for you and what are the symptons if any?
I'm currently on a clinical trial. Patupilone, Phase 3. It's for platinum resistant OvCa.
I believe there are a number of ladies of various trials on this forum. Perhaps if you added more info on the type of trials you are seeking, it will help us to give you the information you are seeking.
