complex ovarian cyst....

I have recently been diagnosed with a complex ovarian cyst (2.2mm) on my right ovary.  I am in a lot of pain and went to the ob/gyn today.  I was told that the pain is from the cyst being reabsorbed, that complex cysts are never cancerous, and that I should not worry.  My endothelial complex also was 3mm last year and is now 14mm.  I am really concerned.  I do not want to wait if I don't have to.  My tubes are tied and I don't want to take any chances.  I am also tired of just being prescribed pain pills to mask the pain.  Intercourse hurts, it hurts when I urinate and when I have a bowel movement.  I have scheduled an appt with another ob/gyn.  In the meantime, to try and ease mine and my families nerves...should we be concerned or is surgery and other (cancer) in my future?  Thanks for you help

Thank you for your input.  I have scheduled with a gyno oncol. for later this month.  I am really tired of the pain.  I couldn't believe that the other dr. didn't reschedule another followup ultrasound or anything.  We are our best advocates right!!  I am seeking expert anwers now.  Masking the pain is ridiculous.  There are times when I am almost doubled over, but for the most part it is just a dull persistent pain.  However, the underneath of my right ribcage in the back also aches....new sympton or just sore from sleeping badly?

THanks again!

While the vast majority of ovarian cysts are benign, it is simply not true that complex cysts are NEVER cancerous, and I sure would hope no doctor would say such a thing!!
If it hurts to have sex, to urinate, and/or to have a bowel movement,  and the doctor tells you to just take a pain pill and not worry,  it's definitely time to get another doctor!!

However,  that being said,  it's certainly NOT time to panic or worry unnecessarily.  I would advise seeing a gynecological oncologist. Most ovarian cysts, even the complex ones, do turn out to be benign,  but a gyn oncologist is the best qualified to handle any ovarian cyst.  If it would turn out to be cancer, they are definitely who you want handling your care!   I had a complex cyst that did turn out to be cancer,  but it was found when it was Stage 1A, and my prognosis is excellent. My care was in the hands of a very good gyn oncologist.   Again, that's not to worry you, as the odds are very much in your favor that yours is not cancer.  But it is important to find a doctor who actually pays attention to what you say, doesn't just blow you off, and is experienced in dealing with ovarian cysts .
