effects of removal of ovaries

please help me make a decision. I am a brac1 carrier, which means that my risks to developing ovarian cancer are very large. I have been advised to remove my ovaries. I am concerned that it may be a very drastic measure, considering that i am 41. Please share your experiences as to the aftereffects of such a procedure, please?

There would be no question in my mind to not have the surgery!!!  When my sister in law was diagnosed with uterine cancer and died 6 months later, I wanted a total hysterectomy for piece of mind.  Of course you can't go to a doctor and just say I want a hysterectomy.  Ironically, 3 years later I was dignosed with ovarian cancer!!!  Get the surgery!!!  Good luck...

I agree totally with  Suzie...if I knew I had the brac 1 gene I woudl also run to the gyn asap, especially if your not having anymore children.  I would have given any thing to have a warning regarding this monster.  ~~~Joanne

Ovarian cancer is the most deadly of all female cancers.  If you're lucky enough to find out that you are in any way predisposed to this disease, I'd run, not walk, to get your ovaries removed.
Just my opinion.
