gallbladder and ovarian masses

well...just an update...went to gyn/onc today for a followup he said there are many gallstones in addition to my 2 masses and would prefer to have another surgeon there to take out the gallbladder while i am having the masses removed..I am a nervous wreck and now needed this loophole thrown at me..has anyone ever had this done or known someone in this situation? I am trying to deal with the whole gyn thing and now this!! he also stated that there is a chance I may need a hysterectomy which I am not happy about...please someone let me know about surgical menopause...I need some quick answers...I am so distraught over this..I am an endometriosis sufferer and of he finds alot of it..would do a hyster. I asked him to assure me he will try his best...please let me know any info you have

I hope you feel better soon...take care of one thing at a time...see what happens with your gallbladder. You dont want to end up with a severe attack. I'll keep you posted and you do the same...stay well!

Hi - Thanks for the info on gallbladder. I think that's my next quest!  Although I like the benefits of not eating (losing some unwanted lbs. finally), I just don't feel good at all.

My reasons for being on this forum is the dx of ovarian cysts, fibroids, and adenomyosis and all the pain and symptoms that go with all of that.  I am very concerned for cancer as there is alot of family history.  In mid-December they thought I had kidney stones but turned out to be cysts; that's how painful they were.  Howevver, the cyst pain has subsided a little and I'm guessing they dissolved.  But the adenomyosis is causing my abdomen to distend incredibly and still have cramping and bowel issues as well.  I go back to the gyno/onco on the 23rd of March for tvu and consult.

The naseau started about mid-January and I don't know if it's related to the gyno issues or gallbladder.  So, that's my story.  My name is Liz and I live in the Chicago area.

You are not being rude at all, either; you are very anxious and came here for support and advice - I'm just happy I can give some!

Hi, I cannot help you with the gallbladder questions but I wanted you to know that I suffered with endometriosis and it was a year in January that I had a TAH/BSO (total hysterectomy including ovaries) and I have never felt better in my life!! I was found to have bilateral complex cysts on both ovaries measuring over 6cm. My doctor was quite certain it was endometriomas and thankfully he was right, but to say I was scared to death was an understatement. Anyways, the surgical menopause that I was so petrified to go thru was a breeze. I suffered only minimal hotflashes and any moodiness I may have experienced was nothing compared to what I went thru every month with PMS! I consider myself lucky to have gotten thru it so well, but a majority of women really do very well with it. And it not just a "sudden" thing that happens to you after surgery. Its a gradual process your body goes thru and usually its very tolerable. BUT, everyone is different and some women will have to take hormones if they can and most usually do very well with that. So really, don't worry to much about that. If you have tons of questions about you upcoming surgery or menapause you can go the the Hystersisters website also. They also have a wonderful group of women there that can help you thru all of your fears. We are just so lucky to have these great women on these boards that can help us out. Good luck to you.

Hi..thanks for all your help..this has been  crazy...I am trying my best to cope with everyhting. you sound so positive and I am glad you are having a good experience. did you have a full hysterectomy? It's not knowing what to expect that I am nervous about.

Hi..thnaks for all your support..I am still dealing with the anxiety side of it...only had 1 therapy session so far my next one is tomorrow..I am trying to talk myself into positive thoughts...anyhow, i am  taking it one day at a time. I didn't thank god have any gallbladder attacks..i had a burning in mt stomach which the doctor said may or may not be gallbladder related and after a few days went away..he decided to do a sonogram on the gallbladder and thats when they noticed the stones. I know a few people who have had gallbladder attacks and they are extremely painful I think it starts with more shoulder and back pain and vomitting. maybe you should ask your doctor to just rule out any gallbladder problems with an sonogram.  By the way whats going on with you..are u having surgery and what issues are u having? I am so busy complaining about myself that I have been rude to you and I am sorry..where are u from? Send me a post when you can.

Ohhh I feel for you! I'm going through same thing.Have complex cysts in both ovaries(ovc ruled out by ca125 test) 2 weeks ago went to er for severe upper abdominal pain..gallstones!!! ughhhhh! was getting ready for gyno laparscopy to look for endometriosis but that is delayed until I heal from gallbladder surgery.It makes more sense to just go in all at once and get it over with? but they wont.I meet next wed with surgeon over gallbladder issue.The pain is unbearable..at both ends!! had appendicitis oct 2006 so I'm not afraid of surgeries,I'll do anything to end the pain,this will be my 4th abdominal surgery,so adhesions is my concern.
  I know how ya feel,it is horrible,but it will be over soon,once gallbladder is out we will both be back to ourselves hopefully! keep me posted on how your doing...hang in there! prayers,

Thanks for the positiveness..only wish I was as positive...I am hoping they can leave some ovary but my masses are large...12 cm and 9 or something like that...I am so overwhelmed...i truly do not want a hysterectomy even though I am finished having children..I feel scared and don't want to go thru menopause unnaturally..on the other hand if it must be done than it must be done!! I am concerned about the effects of menopause but right now I have to take this one day at a time.

It's a GOOD THING that they will take care of the cysts and gallstones at the same time.  Just imagine how much better you will feel!  

I had a total hyster Dec. 2006 due to 3 very large cysts.  Surgical menopause has been a breeze!  As a matter of fact, I feel absolutely wonderful.  I have more energy and feel so much better overall.  I have not gained weight, but actually lost some weight due to the extra energy (I am very tall and everyone in my family is overweight).  I have only had maybe 5 episodes of hot flushes and/or night sweats and laughed whenever I did have one.  It was only a matter of taking off a layer of clothes and turning a fan on to cool off.

My mother-in-law had to have her gallbladder removed several years after she had a hyster.  She just had to watch the "gassy" type foods because the gallbladder wasn't there to process it.  Her recovery time was very quick.  But since you are doing this at the same time as your gyn surgery - you won't even notice.  Just follow the diet the gallbladder doctor gives.  It is really healthier eating anyway.

Hi - What a mess! I am so sorry for you.  I don't have any answers for the hyster as I'm looking at that myself.  However, can you tell me the symptoms of the gallbladder stuff?  I haven't been able to eat without getting totally nausea for well over a month now and people are suggesting gallbladder. Plus I also have the adenomyosis, fibroids, and cysts and all the fun symptoms that go with that. I go back on the 23rd to the gyno as my abdomen is extended to look as though I'm about five months pregnant, but losing weight everywhere else. I know you're very stressed but if you could give me some insight as to your gallbladder symptoms, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, how's the anxiety doing? Have you sought any more medicinal treatment?  Best to you.....
