hope you can answer this..

Hi ladies...im curious..how fast does ovc grow? Im wanting to ease my mind some...I have had a tumor/cyst for a little over 3 years now. it was 4cm then. just had another transvaginal last week and its 8.6cm ...the doctor doesnt seem to worried. but im nervous big time. the picture of it looks like an egg in a skillet...the center being the fluid and the while being the solid. there were no septations. and very little free fluid. is that a good sign?????????

I hope you "listened" to the women who advised you to have an Oncologist do the surgery.  You've already ignored a growth that needed to be removed three years ago. Most likely, it is benign...the odds are in your favor.

Please let us know what happens with your surgery.  The fact that they are waiting until Jan. 8th, is of some concern. See an ONC as soon as you can to get their opinion and go with it.  Even if it means having surgery during the Holidays. It needs to come out.

I agree with you. Im going to get another opinion from gyn/onco. I just spoke to one of the nurses and she did say that having no septations is much better than having septations. I do feel better about that. Thank you ladies..i will keep you all posted!!!

I get the question you're asking and truthfully, it's irrelevant as to how much it's grown or how big it is. It also doesn't matter if it's septated or solid or fluid filled. Doctor's do not know just by looking at an ultrasound or even a CT scan whether or not something is cancerous. The only way to know for sure is to have a biopsy done or to have surgery.
I couldn't agree more with Dian...you need to see a gyne/oncologist. They are more trained in this area and, god forbid it is cancer, they are the ones who are properly trained to remove it (also called debulking) and stage it which is incredibly important when it comes to treatment and follow up. I am in no way saying that this is cancer but if it was, wouldn't you want to be in the best hands possible?
I don't agree with the hysterectomy thing either - if you don't have cancer then why take everything out? They were put there for a reason and even though you don't have periods anymore, the hormones produced help with other things throughout your body.
Best of luck with things...please get a second opinion if you can.

i think she is doing whats easiest for her too !!  do you think she could tell it isnt cancer from the pic of the transvaginal? plus im not distended or in pain. and have had this for 3 years and it only went from 4.5cm to 8.6cm in those three years. man..thinking she probably knows its benign and wanting me to have major surgery makes me mad!  Hey...can a tumor/cyst cause periods to stop?  she said i must be menopausal since its been over a year since ive had a period. I dont think so..i have an older sister that still has hers ..my mom had a hysterectomy when she was in her 30's due to bleeding a year straight from barth gland?..it wasnt cancer or anything.

the gyno said since she is doing open surgery because its big and since i havent had a period for over a year i should just go ahead and get a hysterectomy. im still curious...is it a good sign that it has only grown 4cm more in three years..??? and that it doesnt have septations,,is that a good sign?

The odds of a cyst being cancer are slim but if it turns out to be that way, you do want the best doctor there during the surgery (a gyn/onc in other words).

I had a cyst form. When they found it in Nov. it was 7 cm. By the time of surgery in early Feb. it was 10 cm. But mine was still benign. There was some talk of doing a full hysterectomy because of my large cyst and fibroids in my uterus. But then they decided why do such a major surgery when they can do a laparoscopy for the ovary and cyst. That way there would be less risk, easier recovery time. The uterus and fibroids (harmless) are still there and I'm doing great. I would definitely rethink the whole hysterectomy issue. It almost seems like the new doc is doing what's easiest for her, not necessarily what's best for you.

One big reason to get rid of the cyst is because when they get over 5 cm they can cause the ovary to flip and twist the tube. Then it's painful and an emergency.

Hope you get this resolved soon.

First of all....YOU HAVE ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.....get yourself in to see a gyn/oncologist; and , definately.....this is the person you want doing your surgery!  This is their arena of expertise and you want that person by your side during any surgical procedure.
Generally speaking...anything more than four or five centimeters is removed.  Also, if this isn't cancer....why have a hysterectomy?  I don't get it.
Please get a referral to a gyn/onc and go from there.
Peace.

hi...no not been diagnosed with cancer. I have had transvaginal ultrasond last week and before that it was three years ago. The cyst/tumor has gone from 4.6cm to 8.6cm in 3 years. it looks on the transvalginal like it has fluid in the center then solid around it. no septations. three years ago the doc i had seen said it needed to be removed but didnt have the look of cancer. I had lost insurance so thats why its been so long since ive seen a doctor. this isnt the same doc i saw then. This new doc said she didnt think it was cancer either but is going to do an open surgery so it can come out whole and said since she is doing it that way i should just go ahead and get total hysterectomy. She said to relax..(yeah, right) and enjoy the holidays..and scheduled it for Jan 8th. Would she wait so long if she saw something? and how can they tell by transvaginal if it looks ok? I made her give me a percentage she thought for it to be cancer and she said maybe 10%, she said from how i look and how the transvaginal looks. Im not in pain...never have been. would it after being sizeable for so long show in the transvaginal if it were cancer?

Well, it really would depend on what grade of cancer it is (although from what I'm reading, you haven't been diagnosed with cancer?)
When it comes to ovarian cancer, there are 3 grades. Grade one tends to be slow growing and can lie dormant for months even years. Grade two and three tend to be more aggressive and grow faster.
Now that your cyst has grown to a substantial size I would suggest getting a second opinion from a different doctor or even a gynecological oncologist. Has anyone talked about removing the cyst? Is it causing you any pain?
Good luck,
Becky
