if my cyst is gone, why am I still in pain?

Two weeks ago I had an ultrasound which showed a 2cm. simple on my left ovary.  I took Provera for 10 days in an effort to shrink it (I only have one ovary).  Yesterday I went in to see my gynocologist because the pain in my ovary started to get worse.  She did an exam and said that my ovary feels completely normal now.  She doesn't think that I even have the cyst anymore.  My question is: why am I still feeling so much pain?  It's worse now than it ever was.  It feels like there is a rock where my ovary should be and hurts to sneeze/laugh, etc.  I was given Lortabs for the pain, but all it does is make me sick to my stomach.  Any thoughts?

Oh, what a coincidence. I had my tubes tied in 95 after the birth of my 3rd child. I also had an ectopic pregnancy in 2002. I had emergency surg. in which they removed both tubes. I have had problems w/ my cycles ever since the tubal in 95. It's been worse since  my tubes were removed. I guess you're right, drs. are only human, but I sure wish they would tell us of the risks/complications of having your tubes tied. I have read soooo much recently about the procedure failing, causing probs w/ pds., formation of cysts(read that recently), etc., etc.. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who, like you heidigrl, got preg.w/ her 5th child after having her tubes tied.
I'm sorry if I sound sound unforgiving, but I would've thought about it twice Before having it done. It seems like drs. recommend this surgery so often, like it is nothing, when in fact it is surgery!!!!

Yeah, I have 4 children.  I was supposed to be done with number three.  Had my tubes tied 7 weeks after I had my third.  At post-op after tubal, dr. told me she only saw one tube.  With surprise, I trusted her with tying the "one" tube that she did see.  Sure enough, eight weeks later, I was pregnant with my fourth.!!!  We just found out during my last lapro I had in October (supposedly to find endometriosis) to find that the tube that the dr. found "stuck to the back of my uterus" was the one the doctor didn't see in my tubal ligation!  So, she just MISSED the tube altogether!!! And they get paid the big bucks!! Now, I have these cysts.  My doctor suggested hysterectomy given the fact that I am done having children and that I have so many problems and pain.  I am really trying to think this through.  Its a tough call.  I just want the pain that has been lingering around for so many years to go away.  I love this forum.  I just happened to find it the other day and am hooked on it now.  Everyone has great advice.

Hi,  I am going through the same things.  I had surgery in October for what we thought was endometriosis.  Didn't find the endo, but realized that my R fallopian tube was "stuck" to the back of my uterus.  Dr. fixed that problem thinking that was causing all of this pain I have been having.  I don't have painful periods, but when I ovulate, I can hardly walk the pain is so bad.  I went back for a post-op appt. and dr. felt a large cyst on L ovary.  Ultrasound read a 7cm cyst and a small cyst on R ovary as well.  Dr. said that the cyst looked "like a functional cyst" and should disolve on its own.  Sure enough, about two weeks later, I felt this bad pain, and couldn't take it anymore.  Had another ultrasound and found that the cyst burst.  I am STILL in pain though.  I don't understand why.  I am SO GLAD TO HEAR that there are other people out there that are feeling this just like me.  No one (family or friends) can understand what I mean.  My husband is getting fed up because sex is too painful for me anymore.  Why can't the dr.'s give answers to  these problems?  I am sick of Doctors!!!  I am afraid that since I have so many problems  with ovaries, etc, that it might lead to cancer.  My doctor tells me I am too young to be worried about that.  I'm 36.

I totally understand where you are coming from. It took my doc 6 mo +  a surgury(also in Oct.!) to finally diagnose me w/ Hem. cysts & PCOS. The hem cysts weren't there at the time of surgury. You'd think there would've been some sign they'd rupt.? My doc kept insisting endo was causing all my pain, but I knew it was something else. I had all of the symptoms of cysts & even diagnosed myself (ha-ha)!!! I too am tired of drs.
I know what you mean about family not understanding, esp. the hubby. He says he doesn't know what to do for me! I told him general comforting would help! I don't think men are equipped to deal w/ this emotionally.
Oh, I also read on the internet that you should refrain from having intercourse while you have C b/c it could cause them to rupture. One more thing to worry about. I am 37. Do you have kids? I have three... my baby making days are over!LOL  Did your dr give you hormones or pain meds? It sucks that we have to take drugs to help us. I've heard of natural(not synthetic) hormone therapy. Maybe it's worth looking into.

I have hemmorrhagic cysts on both of my ovaries. This has been going on since July. Mine appear to grow lg & then rupture. OUCH!!! It seems as though I hurt for about 2-3wks. out of the mo.  Had one on my LO rupture last Thurs around 6am,& have been in pain ever since (same side). Still have one on my RO(5cm). I really don't have pain on that side, however. Strange. I wish drs could give us more info. Mine just gave me Darvocet & Ibuprofin(800mg). It helps somewhat, but the pain is always worse at night, which sucks!!!! My dr told me to think about having a hyst. I'm considering it. However when women hit menpause they usually don't get them anymore. Is provera a hormone (like depo-provera)? My doc put me on Ovcon35. It seems like it is all just trial & error.

My left ovary had a 10x16cm cyst and a 30x35cm cyst on the right. At my last sonogram the doctor said the left one was gone but as usual I have more pain on my left than on my right. I always have pain that starts at the ovaries and runs down my leggs and I always had more pain on the left than the right. Doctors are idiots because my doctor doesn't think that I should have pain on the left side but yet there it is. I'm trying to get an appt with a gyn oncol (it will be my 3rd doctor). Have you had a 2nd opinion? Nobody can understand what it's like, that's why I love to come here because every women here has similar experiences. I wish you well.  Nikki
