When I asked my onc if after my recent surgery they were sure cancer wasn't in my liver, lungs, or colon, he said after I complete my next chemo treatments, we would do a PET/CT scan. Having read about their use on this forum, I was very happy to hear him volunteer that. I also have some unknown aliens in my lung and liver (from initial CT scan before dx), and as a stage iv, grade 3, I would like to know more about them.
Hi there,
If i understand this correctly, you have had an unchanging 8 cm ovarian cyst over a one year period of time. So it is probably a benign cyst of the ovary or tube. However, 8 cm is fairly larger and may be giving you symptoms. You should ask your doctor about the pros and cons of removing this cyst and ovary
best wishes
My mother is due to have a PET scan next week, she's never had one before. She is having it because there is a lump in her stomach, she has been in agony once every 6 weeks, this time she went to hospital and they gave her buscopan by IV, they think it might be scar tissue but as she is stage4 we are worried it may be the cancer again.
Apparently it takes about 3 hours and the radiation levels are much lower than ct scan.
I also feel that PET scan is a better scan to have done ...About 2 pages down, there is a discussion about how minute spots/nods on liver and lungs were more clearly identified with the help of a PET scan vs MRI. My doctor has had me do 12 rounds of carbo/taxol because she has not been able to identify what the mulltiple minute nods on my lungs and liver are. And after reading about similar problems with others on this forum and how the PET scan help identify them, I have requested my doctor give me a PET instead on my next scan!!! Want to stop the chemo if they are not cancer spots!!!
I don't know wher AJAY has come from all of a sudden, or why he is pushing pet scans with his phone number in India. Maybe he/she wants us to go there to get them. The phone code is AFGHANISTAN.
ya this is a very good news indeed but one thing that you should not forget is that always be in a routine check up plan as this can help you in early diagnosis of ovarian cancer as nowadays early stage cancer is very well treatable. so regularly do a PET-CT and also do CA-125 as a ovarian cyst has a very good chance of turning into cancer at this age (44) as many hormonal changes can trigger these cyst to turn into cancer. dont go for a ultra sound as this may give many faulty diagnosis so either go for a CT scan or preferably do a PET-CT. REMEMBER ONE THING AS THIS IS THE MOST MIS-DIAGONISED CANCER IN THE WORLD!!! SO BE CAREFUL!!! GO TO ANY GOOD CANCER SITES AND LEARN ABOUT THE EARLY SYMPTOMS OF CANCER AS THIS WILL HELP YOU A LOT.
