medical menopause

Hi,
just wondering if anyone on here as had to go through a medical menopause in order to stop the production of estrogens which is what some breast and ovarian cancers feed off? I started one using a nasal spray at the start of teh year but did not last the month as it literally sent me crazy. Due to an increase in my ca125 i now have to start it again trying a tablet instead.

Any experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.

xMel

I am not sure either. My menopause started when I was on carbo/taxol. The surgery kicked it in full swing. I was on premarin for awhile to try and help with hot flashes but as it did not seem to be doing much, I was taken off of it.
If possible, can you explain your situation a little more?

I have never thought of this but I guess if it works for you why not. How old are you?? You also didn't say if you are brac1 or 2 positive...what is your diagnosis?? I'm starting Tamoxifen on the 1st to try to keep my ca-125 in check...what was the name of the mist?? Thanks for info~~~Joanne

Hey Mel...
I'm confused...are they giving you a pill (or spray) to put you in menopause?? I've never heard of that before but it makes sense. My cancer feeds off estrogen so I had to stop the premarin I was taking after my hysterectomy.
I wish you luck...I went through surgical menopause and it actually wasn't too bad. I get the occasional hot flash and my memory is awful, but that could be from chemo - who knows. I will caution you to make sure you have your bone density checked. Turns out I have osteopenia and that was only after about a year and a half with no estrogen...not something we should have to deal with at our young age!
Take care,
Becky
