disability

diagnosed in 2008 stage11c oc six rounds chemo, was clear as of feb, did hip replacement in dec 08, still recovering from both. Will need a second replacement, when strong enough. Can I go out on social security disability, cause of this if I have to, and what is involved in doing this. By the way several transfusions and constant drs appt with several drs, Primary, onc, orthopedic, and hemotologist, Who would deal with the paperwork, which Dr? Savings now just about gone, am trying to keep self out of severe debt, can't afford to go out cause of the oc or the hip, if it comes back

The girls are right. I would also start getting the paperwork done ASAP. It will probably involve all of your Drs, but not to worry as that is to your advantage. Hopefully for you it will only take a very short time. It only took about 6 weeks for me to get approved. I was even able to it all over the phone except for the Dr paperwork which they sent to the Drs.
The best of luck to you.

SSI has implemented a "cancer fastrack" now. If you decide to use your cancer as the reason you are applying, rather than the other health factors, it might go faster for you.
Just an idea I thought you might be able to use.

Hi I strongly reccomend before you start to fill out any forms, even on line, that you call social security office and talk to a human.Like so many things in life ssi dosent work exactly the way most of us think it does and getting clear from the beginning saves alot of time and frustration.Filing on line officially begins a process(by the date you file) that can turn into a huge mess, I learned the hard way. Be well, Colleen
