ovarian cancer show on CT??

I have had an unintentional weight loss of 22 lbs in about 6-7 weeks. I am 49 and a mom to four. I have a history of ovarian cysts and cervical dysplasia as well as uterine fibroids. I have one (left) ovary. I have been very fatigued with horrible nausea, abdominal fullness, can barely eat much in one sitting, some sharp pains on the lower left ( ovarian) side, some intermittant light spotting....and during intercourse. I went to the ER and they did a CT and said the radiologist " thinks that you have a cyst on your ovary but to be sure follow up tomorrow with your dr for an ultrasound to be sure." Can they not tell a cyst from a tumor on a CT?? Anyone with experience with this? I feel so sick....and with the holidays, I can't enjoy anything with my family. I also work FT with third graders. My work day is miserable. :'-(

Technically, a cyst, a mass a tumor can all be interchangable...and unfortunately, Ovarian Cancer cannot be diagnosed through any type of scan.  There are no tests.  Ovarian Cancer can only be diagnosed through a biopsy.

A radiologist that sees things all the time would know if it is something suspcious.  They can tell you if it is simple or complex, but, that doesn't make it benign or malgnant.

All that being said, if there is a possibility that it can be cancer, it is recommended that a  GYN/Oncologist does the surgery, as they have 3 years additional training and often perform surgery with better outcomes.

Most ovarian cysts, masses, tumors are benign.  Ovarian cancer is a relatively rare disease.

Please let us know what the doctor has to say.

I think they show better on vaginal ultrasound.  I had a ct in march that showed nothing remarkable on the ovaries.  Then in sept they found a cyst during my annual female exams on the vaginal ultrasound.  It did show on ct in october but my impression after speaking with the oncologist is that they show up better on ultrasound.

Bless your heart.  I feel like you are talking about me.  I just had surgery a week ago for a 7.9 cm complex cyst.  Same symptoms as you.  You need to be on a pain reliever, they gave me vicodin, and honestly I don't know how you can be on your feet all day without it.  I should be getting my biopsy results tomorrow.  I am hopeful that it is all benign.  You should definetely see an OB/GYN asap.
