Interesting research on DCA

I know everybody here is probably already on top of this one, but just in case, I wanted to share this article from the BBC News web site:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6576655.stm

Quoting from the article:

"A cheaply-produced molecule may be the key to treating a variety of cancers, claim Canadian researchers.

Dichloroacetate (DCA) has been suggested for years as a possible treatment for certain rare metabolic disorders in children.

The University of Alberta team, writing in the journal Cancer Cell, now say it could encourage cancer cells to die.

Experts say much more research will be needed before an effective cancer treatment can emerge."

It wasn't clear to me until I read some other information that DCA is *already* available by prescription for other disorders (metabolic, etc.) as mentioned in the article. Which means that it can be requested off-label from doctors who can write prescriptions.

See "A Mitochondria-K+ Channel Axis Is Suppressed in Cancer and Its Normalization Promotes Apoptosis and Inhibits Cancer Growth" from Cancer Cell http://www.cancercell.org/ (full text is available by subscription or through libraries, try your local university library)

I hope this helps and doesn't violate any rules. I just found this news exciting and wanted to share it with everybody.

When I contacted Gov Of Canada Health Department they told me that Dr Khan  has an exclusive licence to use DCA...  to treat patients with cancer and other ailments. I do believe if he was doing something WRONG they would shut his clinic without explanation to the public. He is still in business as we speak.

Dr Michelakis is conducting clinical trials in Edmonton and I signed up 2 years ago but could not afford to go and pay for my own food and lodging for time of the trials ...so I declined.
I know that this is a legit doctor who also was approved by Canadian Gov to do what he does.

If the College of Surgeons said they can't do anything that must be a legit clinic. In Canada you can't practice medicine without a licence and use medication without Health canada approval especially by MD's..

This stuff has only been tested in petri dishes and by unscrupulous doctors..

Reports have since pointed out that although the study results are promising, no formal clinical trials in humans with cancer have yet been conducted, emphasizing the need for caution in interpreting the preliminary results,[
] though some doctors are treating patients with DCA "off-label
and under a cloud of controversy.[16] Medicor Cancer Centres, a private clinic in Toronto, run by the husband-and-wife team of Drs. Humaira and Akbar Khan, is since March 2007[18] using DCA off-label for the treatment of several cancers and said on their web site that some patients "are showing varied positive responses to DCA including tumour shrinkage, reduction in tumour markers, symptom control, and improvement in lab tests".[17] However, they have not published their results nor reported it at medical conferences. Dr. Terry Polevoy, of Kitchener, Ontario, called on the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario to take away the Khans' licences for offering a compound that hasn't been proven to shrink tumours in humans. "They are not oncologists. They should not be making these decisions. I think they should be disciplined for using this stuff. That, to me, is unethical, to use something that has never been proved to do anything." But the College said that it was not their role to say which therapies a doctor can use.[

There is a private clinic in Toronto,ONT ,Canada and Dr Khan is using DCA to treat cancer.
I was enquiring about it, but can't afford him.
The molecule of DCA must be pharmaceutical grade to be effective and safe.
Dr Michelakis from Edmonton,Alberta,Canada is researching it as we speak and he has or had a clinical studies using DCA.
I am very interested in this treatment for my cancer...but so far nobody can get clean DCA from compounding pharmacy.

http://www.****.***

This is a website with plenty of DCA info on it, including all of the updates for U of Alberta. There is also a chat site on there for people who are currently taking DCA, including myself.
