ovarian cyst

I am scheduled for the removal of a 8mm ovarian cyst. The MD reports she will remove this through a 4" incision. If the cyst comes back as cancer she wants to do a full hysterectomy by an open incision from my rib area past my navel. Has anyone had this and does this seem odd? I asked about the bikini cut & she reported this could not be done because she will need to explore my other organs to see if there is cancer anywhere else? Please send your thoughts The surgery is scheduled for 3/25/08

                                                          Thanks

Definitely have a gyn/onc there - it can't be stressed enough if cancer is even remotely suspected.  They have the special training to deal with cancer and will provide optimum care.  Best of luck to you, Chris P

Dear Rosie,
My incision was from just a cm below my belly button down to my pubic bone, So, as you see, what your doctor is suggesting is not unusual. Also, as the last person said, make sure you have a gyn/onc on board with you for extra peace of mind. They really know what they are doing.....I really liked mine!!!!!
I will pray that you have the courage to seek out explanations and get complete answers for every one of your concerns. You're are stronger and more capable of  doing this than you think!!!!!!!! Take care and let us know how you are doing. We care!!!!
                                            Hugs,
                                               Shari
