ovarian cysts

did anyone see the news last night.a woman lost her life to ovarian cancer after Dr s told her she had IBS and she had been back and forth to DRs A&E 40 times and no one listened to her.

also read of so many stories of people who have ovarian cysts which scans dont pick up and therefore |Drs ignore their symtpons.
I am experiencing the same having been to my DR and A&E  fro over a year with a huge swollen solid lumpy abdomen and
painful ribs no one will listen to me or give any answers..

Unfortunately doctors are human first off.  Secondly pharmacy companies rule our healthcare systems!  Here's some facts that you may NOT know: The USA is ranked like only 40th in all the countries based on the health of our people!  However we are ranked #1 for amount of prescriptions our population takes!  The number 1 cause of deaths in the USA, that NO ONE is reporting accurately, is death by doctors!!  (based on research!!)  Doctors are great in emergency situations, but very poor source for actual healing of symptoms!  They usually only prescribe drugs that do not fix the problems, but just mask the symptoms!  There are much healtier alternatives available out there, but they are not as well know, tend to cost more, and usually is NOT covered by "health" insurance!!  Our medical system in the USA is NOT a "health care program"  -it is a crisis care program!!  Now what good is Obama Care going to be?  I can only assume, that too will be backed & governed by the pharmacy companies ~ they are extremely wealthy companies!!

I had the same issue my doctor told me it was prob ibs due to my tummy being swollen, I am a student nurse and disagreed with him as I knew I did not have other symptoms. I went back to my doctors office 2 weeks later and said that something serious was wrong. The doctor said ur either 5 months pregnant or there is something else going on, when I said well i think it's a Timor my doctor agreed this was possible - she sent me to a&e that day saying she would not be comfortable waiting another day. Thank god she listened to my concerns as I was on the operating table 3weeks later having 2 ovarian tumours removed. (I live in Ireland so this was extremely quick for surgery)!!!

The point in this is ovarian issues are extremely difficult to identify! Be proactive - argue your point, you know ur body better than anyone else and most importantly trust your gut instinct - it could save ur life. I had no pain, no previous problems with gyn issues. Best of lluck

That's a very sad story. I know there has been some improvement on educating the public about Ovarian Cancer but the doctors also need to be brought up to speed. At this time it looks like we have to be our own advocates. It's hard to push back when talking to a doctor since s/he is the expert. But if we aren't getting clear answers, then I think it's quite alright to have them explain it to us.

Has any doctor explained to you what's going on with your "huge swollen solid lumpy" abdomen? That would be the first step. If there are tumors in there, then you can ask why they aren't being removed and tested. Not everything is ovarian cancer but huge lumps aren't normal either and should be treated.
