Hi I no, I didn't think she had a bowel fistulla.  I meant abcess, they can develop anywhere. I am sure the small "grenade" things she has are what are called jackson pratt drains, those are to drain the abcess's.  You didn't give me the wrong impression, it was me saying it wrong.  She is young and she will get through this!  Thank you for being a support to her and all those on here!  Shannon

Yes, this was supposed to be a positive experience of getting the colostomy reversed, and I am so sad it turned into this.  I look forward to the day she comes home and starts feeling better.

I am sorry that I gave you the wrong impression somehow.  Deandra does not have a bowel fistula although they were concerned that she might have one, but that is not the case.  If it were, they would have had to undo the colostomy.  Unlike a bladder fistula (which I had) a bowel fistula can't just be left alone.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I am so sorry this is happeneing to her.  I have seen this surgery so many times, and it is one of the hardest surgeries to have.  I really hate it.  I have seen these same complications so many times before.  Its easy to get discouraged and depressed because the healing can take so long.  I want Deandra to know that once the fistullas heal and her bowel starts working, she will feel so much better.  She is young and she will heal!  Stay strong, and I am sending you so many prayers and positive energy!... I just got off of the phone with Norma and Deandra is STILL in the hospital.  I hadn't checked on her in a few days and I just assumed she was home by now.

She had to have surgery on Sunday for that abcess in her pelvic area.  They had tried to do the needle drainage, but the abcess was to complicated.  They cut open the incision from her colostomy two weeks ago.  She was very disappointed but has been a good sport.  She has tubes that go through her nose into her stomach and two drainage things in her stomach with what Norma described as a grenade looking thing on the end.

She has walked around a little and today the Dr let her have some water and apple juice.  They will take out the tubes tomorrow if she can keep stuff down.  Her veins are bad so she has a PICC line.  She sounds like there isn't a part of her that isn't wired up to something.  They are looking at Mon or Tues for her to get out.  They do feel that they are making some forward progress, but are very disappointed that it took another surgery to fix this.  Her mom said she is getting her color back, but she is still having pain in spite of the high dilaudid dosage.

I could just spit bullets at this disease.  Like that poor child didn't have enough on her?  I just hope this is the end of it.  I forgot to ask Norma about the 3 more rounds of chemo.  She did say something about the oncologist coming by to see her this weekend.  Sorry it took so long to get the update.  I got her voice mail and than finally her mom.

Well, Deandra honey, you know you have my love and prayers and Cory's also.  Rest, get well, come back to us.  We miss you!!
Love, hugs and sunny days to you!

Yes!  I agree, not a day goes by that I don't think of her.  I check the message boards daily hoping to find out that she is home and fine.
