Hi:
im new to this sight but it really seems great. my question is that im panicked because i was diagnosed with and ovarian cyst in june this year after an ultrasound was done and my dr sent me for a cat125 and cat119 blood test which she told me was normal, but never gave me the actual level of the test.  since then, i had another unltrasound today and the tech told me the cyst has grown.  i don't even know what kind of cyst it is but am assuming it's functional since my dr told me in june the cyst was large but is not to worried.  my question is: how long do cysts take to go away or could i be stuck with this for a long, long time.  i don't have any problems except some minor lower back pain at times and my left side will ache at different times.  should i be concerned. i just want to know if i should get a second opinion at this point or wait it out.

Thanks for your response.  I'm seeing an ob/gyn.

What kind of doctor are you seeing? Just a family physician or gyn? And always if your not comfortable with the explanation from your doctor by all means go see another one. Make sure its a GYN/ONC though, they have 3 more years experience with the female plumbing.
Your cyst is still small, but cancer don't discriminate. It don't care how old you are. Most doctors don't think of ovarian cancer with younger women because the MAJORITY of women with OVCA are over 50. The minority gets left behind. Not saying you have cancer, but no one knows that until biopsy or unless the cyst dissolves on its own. If you aren't having any kinda of symptoms,(Just my opinion) I'd go ahead and wait 2 months for another TV Ultrasound, then maybe ask to have another CA-125 if it hasn't resolved.

my dr just called and said that the cyst has grown from 2.1cm to 3cm since june.  she said that the radiologist suggested i have an mri after my next period but she thinks that this is overkill and all i should do is have another untrasound in 2 months.  she said lots of women have cyst and that this is not abnormal to have one that grows, so she just wants to watch and wait.  she feels it is very unlikely that i have ov because i am only 47 and it does not run in my family.  but should i get a second opinion, i mean this is my health and i'm very scared.

If the cyst is not too big,or if it is a functional cyst, your Dr.will ask you to wait,i.e.'wait and watch' period. If the cyst is simple functional cyst, it may go away during your regular menstural cycle.Don't worry ,Take care.

If it is the same cyst and it has grown in 3 months then it needs to be watched. A tech cannot give you the info you need , you need to talk to your doctor as to what the next course is. You need to be told the size of the cyst, this sometimes determines if it needs to be removed or not. I think you need to contact your doctor and ask for a good explaination of your scan and what it actually shows.
