concerned????

I am am 27yr old aaf. About a year ago i was told that i had fibroid tumors. I had my gyn exam and had noticed over this past year that my abdomen has enlarged slightly. i had another exam and she felt mass on my right side. she said that i need an ultrasound but that she does not know whether it is my ovaries or fibroids she will notbe able to tell until then. I do not have kids, and have no symptoms except for a distended abdomen. I continue to come on my cycle regularlyI just do not know the next step. I researched enlarged ovaries and the only thing that comes up is ovarian cancer, and cysts. Does  anyone know anything about myconcern???

I also had fibroids and my stomach was also distended.  My GYN put me on a course of a shot for three months (depot lupron)to shrink the fibroids.  It works!  If it doesn't you can always have just the fibroids removed and not have to worry about becoming infertile. As for the your concerns for your ovaries...have the vaginal ultrasound, think positive and good luck to  you.

Your problem could be the fibroids in the uterus or cysts on the ovaries and there is no way for your Dr. to know until your have the ultrasound.  I hope that for your sake it is scheduled soon, because you are correct when you goggle enlarged ovaries you end up finding ovarian cancer, and that is a frightening thing.  In your favor you are pre menopausal, and the vast majority of ovarian problems are cysts (over 95%) and they are benign.  So get your ultrasound, try to stay calm, I know that is the hard part.  Good luck to you, keep us posted.
